who's had a great night at the theatre lately ?
i never have. well rarely have.

these new 'young' gritty/streetwise ancient writers with their
cobblers old cool/hip plays that turn out to be like when
iris murdoch (aged 70+) tried to write about rock music
in some book or other - bleur.

the theatre stinks right ?
it's about 50 years behind the pop scene,
and it's not been cool since the 60's.

'a bad night at the movies is still
better than a good night at the theatre'
dunno who said that but they were right.

Tanya would never admit to "rarely" enjoying music.

I went to see a comedy the other day and it was really funny! It was much better than Saturday Night Live or MadTV (though not better than Kids in the Hall)

I think theater usually works best with a house capacity of < 100 people

I have only been once in nearly four years living in London. My last girlfriend got free tickets (something to do with working for Amnesty) and we went to an Irish two-hander late last year. Some good lines here and there, but structurally pretty worthless.

I wuv going to the theatre, but I only really like a certain type of theatrical production, and to some extent my liking for the theatre is so specialised that I effectively only like stuff by a handful of directors.

In general I like:

- minimalist productions of Elizabethan/Jacobean plays, in small theatres

- absurdism

- anti-naturalistic production values

what I really like is stuff by the Bedrock and Loose Canon theatre companies, and stuff featuring the people involved with them.

to the extent that I aspire to engage in creative activity, I would like to write for the theatre. Unfortunately, I would like to write the kind of plays I like to see, which means that fame and fortune are unlikely to be mine.
