I really hope not.

Arthur (Arthur), Thursday, 6 March 2003 04:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

If so, what did Blout do to deserve this? I hope he didn't just rant boringly about doves and some books he didn't like

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 6 March 2003 04:44 (twenty-one years ago) link

Put bored lonely emotionally unstable teenager in sole charge with very little real support except the odd thankyou and watch the sparks fly!

Graham (graham), Thursday, 6 March 2003 04:49 (twenty-one years ago) link

glad that's cleared up then

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 6 March 2003 04:49 (twenty-one years ago) link

graham go 1's and 0's postal on someone elses time, k?

(ban at will, it'd be a blessing at this point for my sanity)

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 March 2003 04:51 (twenty-one years ago) link

(for about half an hour this evening the board was set not to show any of James' posts - nothing was deleted or blocked)

Graham (graham), Thursday, 6 March 2003 04:54 (twenty-one years ago) link

fair enough.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 6 March 2003 05:02 (twenty-one years ago) link

Sorry that you feel you're not getting support Graham - Mark seems to be busy this week and I know I am i.e. we need more moderators (as usual) so you don't have to do moderator stuff as well as technical stuff.

Any suggestions as to how we could support you more gratefully received!

fwiw, i emailed james, he says thats pretty much it from him. hopefully he doesnt mean it

:(

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 6 March 2003 10:59 (twenty-one years ago) link

If i had more time I would offer to moderate (don't laugh). I think I have a high threshold and have a lot of patience.

I hope james comes back too.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

i'll email james later today

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 6 March 2003 11:44 (twenty-one years ago) link

i think low moderating presence is actually quite a good thing in many ways, mostly, but the heavily increased traffic lately is really stretching our resources

What, is this larf at Graham day?

Graham (graham), Thursday, 6 March 2003 12:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

Graham please don't feel too bad about all this - what you did wasn't remotely as terrible as some people are making out, it just shouldn't have happened ('specially as lots of people on the thread were calling JB a dick anyway and you were making your points very well).

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 March 2003 12:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

I hope you don't mean that. I don't really see, at all, why people are pissed off at you.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 6 March 2003 12:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

Graham, let me be clear about what I mean -- it wasn't a terrible thing to do but it was a stupid thing, and a bad way to make youe point about power imbalances. I do think you should apologize, but I also expect that your apology will be accepted and this will go away.

I also think Blount was full of crap on the yelling out of windows thread, for what it's worth, but he had nothing but words and you cheated in the argument by pulling a moderator switch. Fair's fair.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 6 March 2003 12:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

back in the day, when i deleted half of a post from some prick who was stalking/threatening/abusing kate on ilm (and announced it on the boards), there was the MOTHER of all ile "principle" debates abt censorship and freedom of speech and idealism and pragmatisim and workability

the bottom line of workability is that it always stands foursquare on the tired bones and sensibilities of the ppl it actually rests on: my version of "fuck you all" (which does occur now and then, saintly as i may otherwise seem, heh) is to turn the computer off and go and do something else, and if you all tear each other's heads off while i'm not there, then it's yr fault and yr problem (is what i am thinking at such moments)

i.e. we need more moderators (as usual) so you don't have to do moderator stuff as well as technical stuff.

I keep offering, for ILM at least, and no one is biting. =)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 6 March 2003 13:41 (twenty-one years ago) link

Sean I don't know if this has just happened or what but you ARE an ILM moderator!! Or at least you were already listed there when I tried to make you one just now.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 March 2003 13:45 (twenty-one years ago) link

Okay, then someone had to tell me how to actually do it, then. Special login? Or should special options just appear when I login as me?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 6 March 2003 13:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

You're now one here too. Who is bubbles BTW?

You should see 'Administer Site' on the front page of ilxor.com; 'Administer Board' on the front page of each board; and there's an 'admin' link in the 'show all settings' for each post, which you can turn on so you see it on the settings page.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 March 2003 13:47 (twenty-one years ago) link

Not seeing those options anywhere, Tom. (Edited: oh wait, yes I see the admin for posts now that I've turned it on in settings, still don't see it on the main pages though.)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 6 March 2003 13:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

Maybe you can't get into those unless you're a full site administrator then, I don't know!

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 6 March 2003 13:54 (twenty-one years ago) link

I just added Sean, but really we need some US ILE admins.

Administer site only appears if you're a proper site admin. The Administer Board link is on the New Questions page, right at the top next to Show All Questions. you can edit posts by clicking the Show All Extras at the bottom of each thread, and clicking the admin link next to a post.
