Three Colors Trilogy on DVD in US

Honestly, these are some of the most well-designed DVDs I've ever seen. They rival even the Criterion Collection. *gasp* Tons of bonus material with real content (not silly promotional material you usually seen on Hollywood DVDs), early Kieslowski student films, "Cinema Lessons" with Kieslowski, etc. And no deleted scenes, thank god. I hate having deleted scenes, b/c I invariably end up making it a part of the text in my head, and it shouldn't be considered as such. Either put it into the director's cut or don't show it to me.

But anyway...I don't know how they managed to get so much onto each of these discs. And it's insanely well priced, to top it all off.

And of course, the movies themselves are wonderful.

I wish he hadn't dies and could have made more colours to make other countries flags. (The reason he made red & white first cos it was the polish flag). Yellow and Black would have sorted out Belgium, Germany and Spain.

yeah, it would have been cool if he ended up covering the whole of this.

and I guess it would have only taken...four more colours?

I'm still excited to see how the new trilogy he worked on before his death turns out. Haven't seen Heaven yet, though.

I think it's a little ironic, since I more or less consider the Three Colors Trilogy the cinematic equivalent of the Divine Comedy (not content-wise, of course, but in structure and its form, unity, and detail).

Can't wait to get these finally. I just ordered them...

Now I'm just waiting for the new edition of the Decalogue and a DVD copy of Double Life of Veronique and I'm set!

What? There's going to be *another* Decalogue DVD? AARGH.

Btw, Heaven was disappointing. The ending was beautiful, but much of everything before was boring.

From what I heard, they took the original DVD version out of print because they decided to work on this new edition. I don't know if it is a different print or if they are going to have any special features or anything, so don't get too pissed yet! :)

Okay, I found it. Ebert's great movies essay on "Red" from this past week.

Kieslowski's trilogy will be released Tuesday for the first time on DVD by Miramax. "The Decalogue," also reviewed in Ebert's Great Movies series, is out of print on DVD from Facets, which plans to issue an improved edition later this year based on better source materials.

So there you go.

Jeezis and I read that article too. But since it's out of print, ebay might be beckoning.

Leee (Leee), Friday, 7 March 2003 22:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, you'd better put it on E-bay soon, before the new edition becomes more common knowledge.

On the other hand, there are still dumb bastards paying hundreds for the OOP first Criterion edition of 400 Blows, and they announced a second edition with twice as many features months ago.
