I like circles.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 March 2003 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Some of my best friends are squares.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 7 March 2003 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Squares with rounded edges are nice, as are circles within circles.

I don't like ovals though.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 7 March 2003 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Wha ? Ovals rule big time !

Fuzzy (Fuzzy), Friday, 7 March 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Rectangles really bug me but you can take the dirty look off them by rounding the edges.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 March 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Triangle. And by extension, pyramids and dodechahedrons. :-)

kate, Friday, 7 March 2003 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate's upped the ante - the shapes are getting fancy!!

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 March 2003 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

pear shaped is also cool.

Mooro (Mooro), Friday, 7 March 2003 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I've taken them into a third dimension.

OK, I'll up the ante, baby, one more time. My favourite shape is a TESSERAT!!! HAH HAH 4-D, BABY!!!

kate, Friday, 7 March 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

j0e (j0e), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

"look maggie, dodecehedron!"

Fuzzy (Fuzzy), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

> Triangle. And by extension, pyramids and dodechahedrons. :-)

i'm confused as to how you get from triangles to dodecahedrons, surely triangles map to icosohedrons and it's pentagons that map to dodecahedrons. 8)

but yes, dodecahedrons are coolest 3d shapes. pentagrams / stars are the best 2d shapes.

andy

koogs (koogs), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Lara Byrne, you are not shaped like a teenage boy with boobs. You are shaped like a foxy foxtrel with boobs. And that is the best shape.

nickie (nickie), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

nickie took the words right out of my mouth!

Mooro (Mooro), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

= Satellite dish

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep.

Graham (graham), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

trying to remember what shape a 50p is (ie Sophie Ell B's face - octagon?) I found a website telling blind people how to distinguish coins by their size and shape. made me feel sad.

nickie (nickie), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Because you are poor and have no coins left?

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

50p is hexagonal, you would know this if you had one.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

No, it's hePTagonal - 7 sides innit. _Hep_tagon = the coolest shape = Sophie Ellis Bextor, of course. In a jazz-loving black polo neck to emphasis her superwide jaw.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Rhombus:
"Hello there. I like your mails but just
wanted to say that although it is true I
do have a rhombus-like face shape, I don't
actually have a large forehead, or even
head, for that matter and can fit into
smaller hats than most adults.
Sophie E.B."

Graham (graham), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Heptagonal, right. I made the mistale of counting the sides on Sophie's face as I don't have any *foreign* money to hand. Did you know that the British 50p was introduced in 1969?

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

yes. yes we did.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Interesting, huh? It's made of cupro-nickel as is the 5p that was introduced in 1990.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

What were the previous 5ps made out of then?

Tim (Tim), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

ghee

Graham (graham), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Cupro-nickel too but they were a different size.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

You don't know how to make a cup of tea but you can talk about ghee. Who *are* you?

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

That question sounds like Henry Kelly's Going For Gold but in reverse.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

My name is Marika and I am from Hungary.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i live on the second floooor

stevem (blueski), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Tim lives upstairs from me.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

The vesica is good. More complicatedly, I do like the Klein Bottle.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 7 March 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Funnily enough, I really am shaped like a teenage boy with boobs. Or is this another excuse to slag myself off?

I don't have a favourite shape. I like shapes that are seemingly freeform but somehow have an underlying sense of symmetry and design. I have a chunk of Amethyst and I rather like the way it looks. (I don't particularly believe this crystals stuff. It's done absolutely nothing for my sense of well-being or confidence! But it looks cool.)

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Friday, 7 March 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you seen the Klein bottle display in the Science Museum?

Or, for that matter, read the Russell Hoban novel Amaryllis Night And Day, in which it features? I read that book the day after I'd been looking at the museum display, and was spooked out by the coincidence.

Of course, you can always buy knitted ones.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 7 March 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i like long rectangles- low slung and seductive.

anthony easton (anthony), Friday, 7 March 2003 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 27 October 2003 06:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Wiggly lines, like wot they use to see if people can read minds. They look REALLy cool!

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 27 October 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think orbs or spheres are shapes.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 27 October 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Certainly Kubes are not shapes

Alan (Alan), Monday, 27 October 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Rhombic Spirallohedron

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Monday, 27 October 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus Christ Jim, how bored are you today?

Matt (Matt), Monday, 27 October 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

My son, square piece of paper in hand...

"It's a square!"
(turns 45 degrees)
"It's a diamond!"
(turns back)
It's a square!"
(turns 45 degrees)
"It's a diamond!"
(repeat ad nauseum until my central nervous system implodes)
