fuck it, let's just know who you like best

this is the question i really wanted to ask anyway, and it's divisive as all hell. let's hit that six month goal, people!

in semi-random order:

dave q

nathalie

mark s

dan

anthony

hanley

emma

mitch

sarah

pinefox

reasons for all can be given at request. i know you all have those people whose names you read first on threads, COME THE FUCK ON AND NAME THEM. if you're upset that i left you off, it's because i forget, so remind me. if you're upset that i put you on, it's because i hate you and find your idiotic posts hilarious or something. if you think this is an awful idea for a thread, you're right, and i couldn't be more pleased. really, at least one thread should be deleted daily for a forum to truly be alive or otherwise it's just boring and complacent. might as well get our kicks while it lasts, although i do sorta wish i was drunk so i could blame that for it.

Someones desperate for a bit of attention

Ronan, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ethan, you remember my name! Then again being the compulsive poster I am, you cant really *not* be aware of me on ILE. Who I like best? DAMN, that's actually a difficult and cruel question. I like everyone. There. But if I had to make a choice: Anthony, Tom, DG and Hanley entertain me the most with their posts. *ducking*

nathalie, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

geoff and arthur for we are the theban hordes
ally because she amuses me
suzy because she knows more then i do about art
Dan and Mike and Ethan and Dave because they make me piss with laughter
maryann because she breaks my heart
Nitsuh, Tom and momus because they break my brain
Lyra and Ronan for making me feel old.

anthony, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Who do I like? I love you all, but following posters make ILE what it is: Anthony, Ally, Richard, Nick, Mark S, Emma (to be on the safe side), DG, Sarah, Maryann & Tom. Hell, add Ronan to that list now too.

Pete, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sarah?! Sarah's rubbish.

Greg, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hey, i forgot nick, he used to annoy me way back when people actually used ilm but now he's hilarious and i love him. i can't believe people are answering this, i figured i was just casting myself into auto-exile with it. bananas!

ethan, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

who do i read first? mark s, obv. pfff. then i read everyone else at EXACTLY THE SAME TIME hah

mark s, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

really i just started reading sarah after i was paired with her in the get a room thread but i honestly think she's quite underrated. it's hard to pull off silly in a good way like that.

ethan, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't flatter yourself, Ethan: it's not neccessarily a bad thread. To be honest, the people whose posts I like the most generally are the people I see regularly or semi-regularly, because those posts feel like an extension of my social life. So Pete, Emma, Magnus, Tim, Nick, Pinefox, Mike, Stevie, Sarah etc.

I like lots of other people's posts of course, many a great deal, but if I started making a list I'd leave somebody out and they'd simmer resentfully. If I had to give some kind of IL* poster-of-the-year award it'd probably be to Mark S here, Dave Q on ILM.

But really there's not any regular whose posts I don't like in some way so if you feel left out by this thread you can shout out to me and I'll come and be nice.

Tom, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

and i really tried too. i figured i might as well after that last one.

ethan, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No Anthony, I don't...but thanks. I just know more *artists*.

suzy, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sub-thread: people you wish would post more. Lixi, Mike J, Maura, Josh who seems to have vanished, Fred ditto, Stevie T (though he has his reasons), the Macleans. Probably loads more.

Tom, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

suzy i point you to the mystifying Derek Jarmons . Plus if you add fashion and design, you are the queen of the art skool disko whie im the boy whos making out in the library with the other boy .

anthony, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The one person above all others I wish would post more often is Mike Daddino. Actually, scratch that, I just wish he'd write a bit more in general. Since the MTV insanity I haven't seen much stuff from him at all.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw! I wuv everyone except for ANTHONY as I am mad at him for dissing Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Lixi and I would post EVEN MORE if ILE-ers would contribute to our BUY US A BEAUTIFUL LAPTOP fund. I accept Billpoint, Bidpay, money orders and well concealed cash. Actually, our flat is falling apart so maybe you could buy us a washing machine instead. The first thing I would stuff in the washing machine would be GREG SCARTH the big ponce, and his white ravey gloves. I bet he's got a "glow stick" too.

Mike Daddino is still not forgiven for making me listen to such unmitigated wank in the Focus Group. Oh hang on! That was the first time I heard INVASION OF THE GABBER MENG OR ROBOTS so actually, I do wuv him.

Sarah, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually hem hem I do wonder why Lixi and Josh aren't posting much at the same time...

Sarah, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

actually, has lixi ever posted? i thought she was just invented for josh or something.

ethan, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am not going to answer this question because it is sick in the head. WHY WAS I ANNOYING ON ILM YOU BASTARD (etc)

But I will answer Tom's sub-thread on who should post more: Michael Jones, Josh, Nitsuh, Lixi, Mike Daddino and Nickie Byrne.

Nick, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, and Maryann.

Everyone else should post less and do something worthwhile with their lives.

Nick, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh nick, you silly. you see, back when i first took note of this dastoor fellow on ilm, he seemed to be followed by lots of belle & sebastian talk and praise from the pinefox. now, i love the pinefox as much as anybody, but usually when he's 'into' something it's not to be recommended for my tastes. but now on ile you've thrown out enough one- liners to catch a good one once in a while and so you are classic. it's bananas!

ethan, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You're right it is bananas. I wuv woo ethwan after wall.

DO you think the pinefox knows how little his recommendations are respected? Perhaps he only pretends to like me in order to make everyone hate me. Am I the Go West of IL*?

Nick, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd also like to say that despite all the nuttiness and odd things that have gone on recently, Kate S.C. And I also like Paul Strange despite him committing ULTIMATE CRIME of playing Spearmint down that indie disco. Anyone else who wants to be liked by me, Billpoint, BidPay, etc. Unless you have committed the ultimate crime of DANCING to Spearmint... then you have waived yr rights.

It goes without saying I have a SPECIAL place in my heart (right ventricle?) for fellow posters who I also enjoy going to the pub with - and these people know who they are and have named yourself above. I'll buy you all a pint, but could I do it after this Friday when I get paid please?

Sarah, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bollocks. I knew that carrying on dancing when Sweeping The Nation got played would come back to haunt me.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, and Lixi has definitely posted on here.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well like Tom I like the people I know in real life best because I know them and they are my mates and whatever whereas the rest of you could be anybody. And I am not going to put my real life mates in order of who I like best as I will get into trouble and all that. As everyone is clamouring to be my best mate.

Emma, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I hope she exists else our rent will suddenly shoot upwards dramatically... and the person that was doing their washing in the bath with a hammer was just a mad hallucination.

Sweeping the Nation = BLIND RAGE and storm off dancefloor usually to the BAR where I proceed to drown sorrows until they play One More Time/The Erection Section, whichever comes first.

Sarah, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

NB my 'real-life' mates were not in order of preference, probably in some vague order of often-ness of recent seeing though.

Yes Mike Daddino should post more!

Tom, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I like everyone. No, really. Even though I very rarely get the chance to post here these days I like all of you. Don't like Spearmint anymore though, since they cost so much money and ask for silly riders. Which no-one here does, I believe...

Paul Strange, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah - come on Tom, of course they were in order of preference. You wuv me the most.

Pete, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't be daft, everyone knows that the kids wuv REVERSE order the best. Therefore it is I who wins the competition for Toms lurve! I knew he wuvved the himvsgurls thread That Fateful Night Of The Ladyfest. Me me me! More popular than Stevie Tee! Fa la, fa la, fa lee.

Sarah, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I'm seeing them play at the Garage on Thursday but only because I've got a free ticket. I've still got a spare one as well. Worth it just to hear them play "Sweeping the Nation", which coincidentally is what my uncle used to do for a living. I don't think it's about him though.

Trevor, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That song is nothing but an endlessly repeated sample of a VERY GOOD song with a load of trite mumbling over the top with some fcuking INDIE BOYS (in the bad sense, oh the very BAD sense) faffing ineffectually over the top. I hate Spearmint. All their other songs were crap indie-by-numbers and could probably be beaten in a fight by Fotherington Thomas. Hullo trees hullo sky hullo smashed guitar flying through the air, hullo member of Spearmint being deposited into skip and driven away by Lambeth Council...

If only my dreams could come troo.

Sarah, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The London-based folx are now firmly ensconced in my head as The Whole Sick Crew. The folx I knew from AMA are the Old Skool Massiv. You're all fan-frickin-tastic, though.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom & Nick D: how very nice of you to say that. What with Pinefox embarrassing me on one of the football threads, it's Self-Esteem-Booster Day.

However, the lack of frequency with which I post is really not that much to do with not having free Web access at the mo' - heaven knows, I spend costly *hours* in here. I just don't have anything to say.

My PC is nearing death though, so I may soon disappear forever.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

STaRRY SaRaH SeZ:

Who I like best right @ this moment in time = starry sarah cheers cheers

mike = getting an apartment or, rather, a co-op.

i = not having a lot to say that doesn't involve age and being old. which makes for no fun.

personally, i think you all post far too much. i'd put forth that it's not the people but the threads that make ile. one could then argue that it is the people who make the threads. which is nonsense, but i wouldn't put it beyond any of you.

fred solinger, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Blimey, Fred. If you're old, the majority of the twin beeotch and Mark S is Mephistopheles himself.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

...the majority of the twin beeotch IS ANCIENT...

Grrr.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I only like Otis, he lets us set fire to recycling bins at his school.

Ally, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Joan, Old Timer, Haruki and Nigel best.

jel, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

richard: mark s may in fact be mephistopheles, i've thought it from time to time, which would make him as old as TIME IMMEMORIAL. and, though he is as evil as the day is long, one can still see glimpses of good, vestiges of the archangel lucifer in him. here is the crux of my argument: though he is old, he is STILL the dark one himself, which makes him IMMORTAL. what is age to him?

the rest of us, sadly, aren't quite so fortunate.

fred solinger, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Um, err. Bugger. That should have been Metheuselah. Bollocks.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh man, a take that song has entered my head...i seriously need to reconsider everything...

jel, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I see I am unloved. I KNEW IT WOULD COME TO THIS. *cries pathetically*

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You shouldn't have admitted you want to steal my man from me, Ned. Otherwise I'd love you like I love the dapper Mr. Wheeler.

Ally, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I see the error of my flirting ways.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll forgive you, this time.

Ally, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Ned coz he's always jolly, and Hanle y coz he's funny.

jel, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i hate everyone. misogyny is a one way street.

Geoff, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i like ned, because he's always flouncing off somewhere.

and because his name rhymes with mine. (give it a try!)

fred solinger, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I liek Hanle y tha best

bark funklish, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I love my neighbor Ned. And I love Anthony for thinking of me, even though I get lurkier every day and never was much of a presence anyway. And, yeah, I'm one of those schmucks who likes everyone on here, pretty much. Even Troll #1 really made me laugh when he and Ally were doing their Margo Channing/Eve Harrington roleplaying bit.

My favorite non-posting presence is definitely Ally's mom. Her "do I get a pony with that" tactic for getting rid of telemarketers was almost as funny as Mark S.'s dream of Helen Terry reinventing herself as the One Inch Belter.

People I wish would post more/come back: Kate, Frank Kogan, Otis, Fred, Nicole.

Coming on strong: Lyra the Wonderkid.

Arthur, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I cherish the Pinefox, DG and Mark S. Where did I go, Ethan?

Captain Swing aka King Penda, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My mom: 1, everyone else: 0.

Ally, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

As moderator and LAW on this board I have to be impartial and say I love you all, except CERTAIN PERSONS who keep trying to WRECK MY NICE CLEAN BOARD for the sake of their PROPHECY. It shall NOT come to pass, y'hear?

DG, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How could I forget Nicole? Please come back.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh dear, I didn't scare her off, did I? I hope not ...

Captain Swing aka King Penda, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, no, of course not...

Ally, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Of the people I have not yet met: Ally, Anthony (and the rest of the Theban Horde), Dan (sorry I missed you!), the Dunedin contingent, Kerry, Lyra, Michelangelo, Ned, Nicole...

I am forgetting someone I'm sure.

suzy, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh fuck, it was Nitsuh. Oooops.

suzy, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And I thought it was going to be me. I see how you all are.

Sean, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Much luv, Suzy. It's probably for the best we didn't get together on Sunday; I was in one of the most foul moods of my life for no particular reason (possibly some weird confluence of jet-lag and first-tour-concert stress) and would have been completely unbearable to be around (Joei can attest to this!).

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I love Sean.

Ally, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw, thanks Ally, I love you too.

I actually started to get a little teary-eyed when I read your post, which leads me to believe I should be getting out a little more.

Sean, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We should have a group hug. Come to NYC, we'll do something, I'll take you to all my bars where everyone knows me and we'll have a good time, with some free drinks.

Ally, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm SO up for that, yo. It'll be fantastic.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Then I can have more people besides just Otis vouching that psycho bartender exists, except he's not quite as psycho now that I'm engaged and told him off. None of all ya'alls believe what we tell people about our lives, except for maybe Dan cos he saw us lose our shit first hand. I will get you all free drinks. You just gotta get yourselves to NYC.

Ally, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Just schedule a weekend -- JetBlue is my friend.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Coming soon, Ally ... coming soon.

Meanwhile I'll just be pleased that not everyone finds me irritating. Unless those are just the exceptions that prove the rule...

Nitsuh, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

my fave probably: mike hanle y cos he's funny.

I have to admit I still like everyone (including Ethan). In some fucked up way Ethan is one of my favourite posters ever even when I sometimes hate his responses. He's what I'd like to be (as a poster).
