if so, could you record *everything* with it?
then share the files on peer-to-peer networks like kazaa lite?
for us to retrieve the files, just name them with the starting tag [ILE]

i bought a cheapo one but i've hardly used it - i keep meaning to go out and record London but all i have so far is me playing with stuffed toys and footage of us on the night bus droning on about how funny Jackass: The Movie was - not very interesting really

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 March 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

What everything do you want me to record?

Ed (dali), Monday, 10 March 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you a pre-vert?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 10 March 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thinking about squirrels.

Ed (dali), Monday, 10 March 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

this is not a good time for squirrels, i'm planning on recording trains...and i was coming home on the bus earlier and this old black lady got on and was chanting and singing monotously. at first it was a bit disturbing but as the minutes passed i got the urge to record it and use her voice on a track. recording weirdos on public transport is most definitely urgentnkey

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 March 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, you were but what of Sébastien?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 10 March 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

if i did.... skate video!

but i don't.

g-kit (g-kit), Monday, 10 March 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyway I can't right now because my quicktime is broken and I can't seem to fix it.

Ed (dali), Monday, 10 March 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

What everything do you want me to record?

open your heart to the spirit of "i love everything" and the images will flow my friend :-)

ex: squirrels are part of everything thus ok

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Monday, 10 March 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I am going home to jump up and down on my video camera.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 10 March 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

pogo rules.
hey Lara you should record everything you see on your way to work, "(wo)man with the moving camera" style :-)

if there is a lot of clips people could mash them up into films, isn'it?

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Monday, 10 March 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I have one - fuck knows how it works though.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 10 March 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

It would be nice to see what I pass on the way to work in the mornings, I suppose, as my eyes don't open fully until about ten o'clock.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 10 March 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

you have a job Lara? ;)

You shit as you walk???!!!

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 10 March 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I had this idea by reading about the Dziga-Vertov group, licences at creative commons (watch the comic to the left!) and these passage of fast times at fairmont high by Vernor Vinge:
"she flicked through various pop culture images as she spoke, finally settled on the heroine student from (some popular director collaboration) (...) she grabbed the background images at the same time, and fairmont schools was transported in a fairy tale castle".
and
"the video geek was going full tilt, pictures and sounds from a million old movies and news stories (...) annette could retrieve and arrange video archives so easily that imaging came as naturally to her as speech"

the semantic web will permit feats like that in a near future. in the meantime let's upload some raw material! (i don't have a digital video camera myself for now but when I'll do I will do just that.)

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Monday, 10 March 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate you all.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 10 March 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

No you don't.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 10 March 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

You're right. I only hate some of you.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 10 March 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

which parts of me do you hate? its my left elbow innit, curse you mal-proportioned limb joints

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 March 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

... and that's pretty much a wrap :-)

too bad my favorite pet idea of these days didn't made a stronger impression.

to make it happen I think I'll take it on forums where there are more artsy people with dv cameras .

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 05:06 (twenty-two years ago)

You shit as you walk???!!!

"i'll tell you about things you never see.... the never see a man taking a shit while running at full speed"

I'd love a super8 camera I could instantly convert into digital. Or like, a digital cam that came out looking like super8 maybe. Or 16mm B&W.

Then I could put it in my study with my SLR, my canvassses, paint, wacom tablet and every other thing I forget I have =)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 13 February 2006 04:24 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not really fond of the idea of the hard drive-based dv cameras, just because of the bandwidth. It's really hard to beat how much data you can keep on a DV tape, just in case you need to get at it again, or retrieve a part that you didn't quite think was worth saving when you were downloading and editing it the first time. With a hard drive camera, you're likely to erase that type of footage for good when hard drive space starts getting scarce.

Also the idea of just flipping a tape in and out of the camera is nice. I hate the idea of running out of room on the camera and having to take a break while I offload all of the data onto a computer.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 13 February 2006 05:20 (nineteen years ago)

hmmm... i really fancy a camera and i've filled out the form but now i'm wondering whether this would be a frivolous purchase and that i might not end up using it as much as i think i might. the vouchers are £500 worth of tokens from the shop of my choice from a list (the list is pretty slim though) and you fill out a form and say what shops and how much.

Vintage Latin (dog latin), Monday, 13 February 2006 12:36 (nineteen years ago)
