Ooh! I know! Please sir! Enterprise isn't on till the end of the year in the US (I think) and will be shown in the UK on Sky One, God knows when. There was a very short ad for it after Sky showed the last episode of Voyager - no footage from the show but a view of the new ship, wot looks RUBBISH.

DG, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bakula as Enterprise captain. Hmmm. I wonder how long it'll be until Dean Stockwell makes a comedy appearance.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What's worse is the trailer I downloaded from somewhere - it doesn't even look like Star Trek, more like some bad rip-off. Hmmm.

DG, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Perhaps you watched a trailer for SMTV 2099 by accident, DG.

The tracing a space arc gag is the funniest thing Ant and Dec have done since Captain Justice, and it gets funnier EVERY TIME THEY DO IT.

Can I turn this into a thread about Scott Bakula?

Ally, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

By all means.

Isn't Bakula a great name, BTW? Just say it: Ba-ku-la. Mmmm, sounds good, doesn't it?

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It sounds like delicious, delicious baklava.

Ally, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

YES, it does. This is why I can forgive Scott Bakula for his many crimes against acting.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Necessary Roughness is a kickass movie, if only it had Judd Nelson in it it'd be great. My mom's always all, "You know that movie, with the guys? What's that?" and I'm always all, "Necessary Roughness", it's some sort of mind control code.

Ally, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Bakula" makes me think of viral vectors, but then so do most things.

Kris, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom you bitch, you know I will have nothing to do with Ant 'N' Dec. They smell.

DG, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ant & Dec are like gods before us, what are you talking about?

Ally, Tuesday, 4 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pish, be quiet American girl. You cannot appreciate the HORROR of their Saturday morning TV show every Saturday. Obviously.

DG, Wednesday, 5 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Funniest part of Necessary Roughness is when Kathy Ireland first opens her mouth and she sounds like Minnie Mouse sucking on helium.

Scott Blacula is from St. Louis. Sadly, he is not a black vampire.

bnw, Wednesday, 5 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bakula is doing very well now playing in midfield for Real Madrid, he did get sent off in the first game of the new season though.

Oh boy!

cabbage, Wednesday, 5 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ba-ku-la is a beautiful name, with the emphasis on the second syllable, but I've heard people call him Bak-u-la, with the emphasis on the first syllable, which I hate. What is it really, trivia-fans? Sorry if this is a really well known bit of trivia, too; I feel quite bad that I never sorted this out ten years ago.

John Davey, Wednesday, 5 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ditto Dracula, actually. Only philistines emphasise the first syllable.

this re. the theme music from Enterprise:

"Breaking news! Russell Watson will sing the theme to the new Star Trek TV series, ENTERPRISE. The series is already confirmed to run for one full season (26 episodes) and the Trekkies are buzzing about it! The song, "Faith In My Heart", is written by Diane Warren and will be arranged in an Aerosmith, power ballad-like fashion with a 45- piece orchestra. The song will be played over the opening credits at the start of every episode. It will also appear on Russell's next album, to be released in October 2001."

an aerosmith, power ballad type fashion. god help us all...

katie, Wednesday, 5 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yes imagine sitting through an aerosmith power ballad and then having to watch an episode of star trek. Admittedly its (just about) better than a Bon Jovi power ballad.

Ronan, Wednesday, 5 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Surely this means that 'Enterprise' will either be the BEST THING EVER or the WORST THING EVER, or possibly BOTH AT ONCE.

DG, Wednesday, 5 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

two months pass...
so ????

I have only seen the pilot (it is already on US TV - up to abt episode 8, I think.) The theme music IS the worst thing evah (first time ST has had a 'song' as opposed to a 'theme' - wot a mistake - apparently Rod Stewart did it before R. Watson) and the credits are all modern and crappy. Underneath it's really the same old same old, and Bakula is TERRIBLE - he appears to have two facial expressions, soulful and determined (with a hint of soulful.) The show seems to lack a Spock/Data/Seven of Nine figure - there is a wacky alien doc, but we've seen it all before.
