The different kinds of tea that cats like

Message Bookmarked

I just absent mindedly asked my cat did she want any camomile tea, and to my surprise she said 'yes, please'! This is amazing, really. Did anyone already know about cats liking camomile tea? I feel such a fool..

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Friday, 14 March 2003 23:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Twee-est thread ever.

Amateurist (amateurist), Saturday, 15 March 2003 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

haha Am. OTM

Aaron A., Saturday, 15 March 2003 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Absolut OTM Amat. and Aar., and yet, there is something so perfect about the phrasing of the thread title, it deserves some kind of prize. It assumes without being presumptious. Encompasses so much in so little, like a haiku. There are cats. There is tea. Cats like tea. There are multiple kinds of tea. Cats like various teas. There may be teas that cats don't like, but we don't know. Amazing. Amazing.

Skottie, Saturday, 15 March 2003 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds more like syllogisms than haikus, Skottie!

Tad (llamasfur), Saturday, 15 March 2003 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree with skottie

rainy (rainy), Saturday, 15 March 2003 00:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Wot is OTM Amat. and Aar? I'm having difficulty keeping up, sorry.

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Saturday, 15 March 2003 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

The cat said, "Yes, please"
To my kind offer of tea
Two cups: cat and me

Amateurist (amateurist), Saturday, 15 March 2003 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

it means on-the-money, or "correct assessment!".

Aaron A., Saturday, 15 March 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Unfortunately what then happened was that I absent mindedly
Made proper tea instead of the camomile variety
My cat grew angry, liked a very pissed off tortoise
And told me to fuck right off in a very very loud voice

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Saturday, 15 March 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

if rainy thinks something is twee, then you know ...

Amateurist (amateurist), Saturday, 15 March 2003 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

tad, I said that I agreed with skottie about the phrasing of the thread title. I made no mention of whether I thought anything was twee or not.

rainy (rainy), Saturday, 15 March 2003 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel like killing and devouring small children when people respond to whatever I say with a stock comment about my perceived tweeness.

rainy (rainy), Saturday, 15 March 2003 00:57 (twenty-two years ago)

especially when those people have an email like "llamasfur". Why don't they just call themself "snugglepiekittenose" and be done with it?

rainy (rainy), Saturday, 15 March 2003 01:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably because snugglepiekittenose is already taken by somebody REALLY twee, and what would be the fun of snugglepiekittenose3176?

Cats actually like coffee. My mom gives her cat a cup of coffee every morning, and it makes him frantic. Perhaps he just likes being high.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 15 March 2003 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, great thread title. I couldn't resist, though not terribly interested.

Rockist Scientist, Saturday, 15 March 2003 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought this thread was going to be about felines eating ganja.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 15 March 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Cats are total drug addicts, if you let them be.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 15 March 2003 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah those little furballs love their catnip!

catnip = feline crack.

Ahhh, funk that. My friend Kaye's cat Nicky drinks gin if given half a chance.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

actually i revived this thread because i like that picture that amateurist posted ... it's my wallpaper on my work computer now, i have the twee-ist computer of them all!

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I love that picture. I like to imagine the cats killed their owners, stuffed them in the basement, and now have the run of the place. And what is the first thing they do? Make tea, of course.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, wouldn't you?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Awww dis thread was started on my birthday, bless. :D

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 23 May 2003 04:28 (twenty-two years ago)

My cats are very perturbed by lapsang soochong, which is the only tea I drink. They always come over to sniff at the mug, like they do when I have coffee, and then give me this look like "Why God, why?" (I told them I'm God), and run off.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 23 May 2003 07:04 (twenty-two years ago)

if i had cats, they wouldn't be picky. they'd drink lipton's or white rose and love it!

Every morning I get my mug of coffee, sit down on the couch, and put my mug on the floor, the easiest place to access it from the couch. And every morning, my cat comes over, smells the coffee, then tries to bury it (in our hardwood floors). Every morning.

Can anyone tell me how to make really really good chai tea? The Tazo bags ain't cutting it. I'd like to do it iced with milk. I rather liked Oprah's fucking chai at Starbucks but 1) five bucks and change for a small iced tea? Get the fuck out of here and 2) Oprah.

What's actually *in* catnip? Not camomile, surely. Is it chorizo? Has anyone here (if there's still anyone here) tried it?

my cat had no interest in tea, only plain cereal milk. not milky tea, nor pure milk, nor cream, nor the leftover milk from a bowl of sugary cereal; it had to be the dregs from something bland, like cheerios/chex. she was very particular. and decorous, as well, not like other kitties who would try to clamber into the cereal bowl before i'd even finished! no, i'd be halfway through breakfast and notice that she had silently materialized a few feet away, sitting with her floofy tail wrapped neatly around her paws, facing a polite 30 degrees away while i had my last few bites. when i'd place my bowl before her, she'd pretend to be surprised -- "all this, for me? you shouldn't have!" -- and help herself to several happy laps of milk before losing interest & drifting away

De Smurfführer (cat), Thursday, 4 May 2023 21:39 (two years ago)

and i wouldn't say that i *like* tea, but i drink it everday (otherwise i fall asleep)

De Smurfführer (cat), Thursday, 4 May 2023 21:41 (two years ago)

i've been adding cinnamon sticks as well, the past week or so. nice little spice in the plain tea, or with milk, or fruity whatevers. or both! today was spiced peaches & cream tea: black tea + cinnamon + a little semi-frozen cup of chopped peach + milk + ice

De Smurfführer (cat), Thursday, 4 May 2023 21:46 (two years ago)

i usually try to keep a bottle of tea brewing in the fridge, too. i oughtta snip some fresh mint one of these mornings, mint + lemon is pretty badass

De Smurfführer (cat), Thursday, 4 May 2023 21:51 (two years ago)

my secondary ice cube tray is currently full of minced ginger but once i've used that up i should make iced tea cubes, so as to chill my tea with no loss of potency

De Smurfführer (cat), Thursday, 4 May 2023 21:56 (two years ago)

there's this bag of matcha powder, it's tremendous and i don't know what to do with it, matcha is awful, it tastes like muddy grass and i am not a goose! that is not a flavor i enjoy!!

De Smurfführer (cat), Thursday, 4 May 2023 22:16 (two years ago)

just had a realization about jasmine tea, namely that i haven't had any in years and this is intolerable! maybe i can sub in rose petals for now. good god i have so much rose petals. my guy ordered a 1 lb bag of them several years ago and there are still just endless handfuls of them, like the bag is enchanted

De Smurfführer (cat), Friday, 5 May 2023 01:01 (two years ago)

i made lavender honey for a friend, and when i'd strained the flowers from the honey i had, ta-da! honeyed lavender blossoms. i could have made cookies or scones with them, but that's hot and messy, so instead i put them to soak in a small jar of water. now i have a jar of lavender honey water. today i poured a bit into my morning cup of tea, with milk and another spoonful of honey, and as i took the first sip i remembered that lavender tastes revolting, like drinking perfumed antiseptic, and that every other time i've been tempted to ingest lavender i've had the same thought, but keep forgetting, and now i'd ruined a perfectly innocent cup of tea.

sleepy bee (cat), Monday, 4 September 2023 21:36 (one year ago)

Deflatormouse, Tuesday, 5 September 2023 01:09 (one year ago)

and yet i keep getting seduced by this vision of a fancy sophisticated cottagecore kitchenwitch me, setting thimbles of garden tea out on the sill for fairies, lounging among the boughs of an ancient willow with flowers in my hair, wearing a simple linen shift ingeniously upcycled from a tablecloth or whatever! i should tattoo reminders on myself like the guy in memento. "stop trying to drink flowers ffs" "wear pants if you're gonna climb a tree" etc

sleepy bee (cat), Tuesday, 5 September 2023 08:45 (one year ago)

at first i didn't understand how it related to the thread, but i think i see what you've done

budo jeru, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 02:37 (one year ago)

you could still try feeding the lavender tea to your pet cats and let us know how it goes

budo jeru, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 02:37 (one year ago)

I thought lavender was supposed to be something cats found repellant so was actually used to keep cats out of areas.
Do they like it as tea then.

Is it then going to be licked all over themselves and give them complexes like.
