the trials and tribulations of mark s

so, mark is *still* promising us reads/rants on punk, porn, and nick hornby. and now there's a supposed "why i stopped writing about world music" for der vire. (which, i, for one, am very keen on reading. since one of the last really good pieces i read in said magazine was herr sinkers epiphany on cecil taylor.)

so while mark is haunted by great gray goblins of guilt for not delivering what he's teased us with like marge simpson on prom night, what have *you* (yes, YOU) been putting off doing forever? do you ever intend on doing it before you are deep in the cold, cold ground?

I have been putting off going to get my video tape and DVD collection from my old apartment where my ex-roommates still live. At first it was just lack of time and then it was out of embarassment and now it's moved on to sheer ridiculousness. And no, I don't know if I'm ever going to do it.

Going abroad. No, I've never left the UK. Really.

Updating FT more often. Hopefully this is about to change.

I would take this opportunity to rant at you Neddy boy, but I haven't updated my blog since July so I'm in no position to criticise.

Everything. No.

Actually, to answer this question again - get a job. Which would be a bad thing, as I would have so much disposable income I would disappear under a mountain of 2nd hand vinyl and CDs, but still - anyone fancy employing me?

If you wish to move to suburban Pennsylvania and live out under the assumed name of Jess H., I will gladly allow you to slip into my new position. I doubt they'd even notice. And I will gladly split the paycheck with you 50/50. ;)

And not to derail my own post so quickly (hah, fat chance) DG, but how does DG survive with no job. As someone who occasionally lives that life, I'm always eager to learn new techniques.

DG still lives at home with his parents and gets £120 a fortnight from the government, which they reckon is unemployment benefit but is really payment for being TOO DAMN GOOD.

Ah, I've gotta move to London at some point.
When though?
I can't do it now, I'm too busy with things here, plus I don't have enough money...
maybe next year... yeah, next year deffo...

Oh, you know - writing more/any short fiction, writing That Book, writing more poetry, writing more considered musical criticism, writing songs, recording the songs I sorta have written, learning more about playing guitar, buying a keyboard, visiting my family in Italy, going on vacation somewhere outside of the northeastern US, reading more books.

And, most importantly, mowing my mother's lawn. Ungh.

David Raposa, Wednesday, 5 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would only buy your book if it proudly stated on the cover "by Daver MOTHERFUCKING Popshots".

DG, Wednesday, 5 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

In that case I shall put that on the cover of my book too...

mark s, Wednesday, 5 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No Markus Sinkerius, that won't work. I'll only buy your book if it comes with the literary equivalent of bonus tracks, including why you hate Nick Hornby and why you stopped writing about world music. You can't fool me that easily.
