Irrational dislikes of the masses

Are there things (books, music, films, rodents, etc.) you like so much that you can't understand why people don't like them? Do you find yourself thinking that the dislikers have either not given the thing close enough attention and would if they did, or else are only pretending not to like your thing to appear cool?

Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. Madonna also comes to mind. Although I can understand one can dislike her music, you can't really hate her completely. She's the most interesting creature on earth.

Has happened many times with music, usually in a burst of righteous passion. Doesn't happen so often now though, thankfully. I often think of music I liked a few years ago and shudder that I ever thought it was right to convert people to it.

I also usually have an irrational dislike of things that the masses do like.

God yes. I sometimes think if people heard things right they'd like them, but then if they don't I decide they must be just narrow minded. Things like Spiritualized or Country music are the worst, people hear it once and judge it and it drives me mental. Or people who admittedly have no more than a passing interest in music telling you what you like is shit when they've barely heard it anyway. I mean it makes you wish music was a science where you could conclusively prove them wrong.

My two examples are -

music: Belle & Sebastian. Surely to know them is to love them?

film: Buffalo 66. It's GRATE. But loads of my friends hate it.

I like Rumours too, and some Madonna. I'm not convinced Madonna is *that* interesting, though, she seems to have turned into a celebrity tosser lately.

Is there another Madonna or something? I thought the masses wuvved her and that is why they are prepared to pay several grand to see her concerts and that is also why she is so rich.

I'd like to know why Weezer's "Pinkerton" was so poorly received.
