How do you do that thing where you get a set of words to appear as a link (in blue)?

Don't make fun of me. I'm a sensitive Gemini.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

< a href="URL" > < /a >

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

(without the spaces before and after the brackets)

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

And write what you want to be the link between > <.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Like this?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

(that's the HTML playground)

also if you look in the FAQ, any URL (starting with http://) will appear in blue writing

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

obv, it will do that even if you don't look in the FAQ. but the FAQ should say somewhere that that will happen. and add an "i" on the front of http:// to embed a pic too. BONUS

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

like this?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 27 March 2003 01:26 (twenty-two years ago)

it's purple!

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 27 March 2003 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

There are no dumb HTML questions, only dumb people.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 27 March 2003 01:42 (twenty-two years ago)

it's purple cuz you've already been there :-)

ron (ron), Thursday, 27 March 2003 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

james (james), Thursday, 27 March 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

hahahaha I DID IT (i am actually chuffed)

james (james), Thursday, 27 March 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

six months pass...
Okay, I'm errrrm, building my blog, but I can't get the HTML on the email link to work. Little help?

adaml (adaml), Friday, 10 October 2003 05:21 (twenty-two years ago)

While I'm here, how do you change font size n colors n stuff?

adaml (adaml), Friday, 10 October 2003 05:34 (twenty-two years ago)

email links are as follows:

< a href="mailto:email@the address.com" >text here < /a >

without the spaces and the boldface.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 05:38 (twenty-two years ago)

font size and color can be changed several ways, but the easiest is:

< font size="3(or whatever size)" color="#FFFFFF" >text here< /font >

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 05:40 (twenty-two years ago)

tx, kenan.

adaml (adaml), Friday, 10 October 2003 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

for color, you can also use basic color names. like,

color="red"

or blue or whatever.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 05:50 (twenty-two years ago)

BTW the "mailto" link merely brings up the end user;s email program. If you're after something fancier like a web form that sends an email on a submit button - well thems yer fancy stuff, with CGI or java or whatnot.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 10 October 2003 05:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Right, and putting that simple form of mail link on a webpage leaves you wide open to spiders that will gather up you address and then spam you like crazy. This starts about a month after you put the page up, regardless of whether anyone besides you has ever looked at the page.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 06:03 (twenty-two years ago)

So, I shouldn't do it?

adaml (adaml), Friday, 10 October 2003 06:32 (twenty-two years ago)

There are scripts that you can use to disguise your e-mail address on a webpage, but I forget where I got them. Anyone?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 06:33 (twenty-two years ago)

You could do this:

Put this in the <head> part of your page:

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
function nospamplease(name,domain) {
document.location = "mailto:" + name + "@" + domain;
}
// -->
</script>

and then format your links like this:

<a href="#" onmouseover="self.status='apple AT crumble.com'; return true" onmouseout="self.status=''; return true" onclick="nospamplease('apple','crumble.com'); return false">apple AT crumble.com</a>

Alfie (Alfie), Friday, 10 October 2003 07:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I still cant do the font thing even after reading how to do it above. :-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Exactly what did you type in? Cut and paste, plz.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

you can also use heading tags like < h2 > TEXT < /h2 >

See?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you looking to make all your links a certain color? Without using a stylesheet, you can define this by typing

< body link="#990000" vlink="#900000" >

in the place where it usually says

< body >

This will make all links ("link") the color #990000, which is kind of a dark reddish brown. and it it will make all the visited links ("vlink") the color #900000, which is a grey.

And of course, those "#" colors are HTML colors, and can be replaced with "red" or "orange" or what have you.

Don't forget to take out the spaces.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

you can also use heading tags like

TEXT

TEST

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:21 (twenty-two years ago)

uH HUH!

Now to try the colours???

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:21 (twenty-two years ago)

What I typed to make the above text red was

< font color="red" >Don't forget to take out the spaces.< /font >

"The spaces" refer to the spaces after and before each < and > tag, respectively.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Kenan, if you put &lt; instead of < and &gt; instead of > then you don't have include spaces.

Alfie (Alfie), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah so.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

< fontcolor=red >WHY CANT I DO IT?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i tried to do it but it wouldnt let me post it saying it was wrong. I tried to copy what i wrote by adding space, but the end part is missing from the above post.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:37 (twenty-two years ago)

<font color="red">This text will be red if you copy this and paste it into the submission window exactly as it is.</font>

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:39 (twenty-two years ago)

This text will be red if you copy this and paste it into the submission window exactly as it is.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

See?

Anothe useful guide -- go to the "view" menu in your browser and choose "view source." All will be revealed, indecipherably at first, but it's really a simple code.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

This text will be red if you copy this and paste it into the submission window exactly as it is.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:49 (twenty-two years ago)

YAY, thanks!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Anytime.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, I hope you realise you are my HTML god now?!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 October 2003 08:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Heathen!

oops (Oops), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Did you have those 'spy' markers when you where a kid? one wrote and the other was scribbled over a message to reveal it?

oops (Oops), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Or like in The Big Lebowski when he scribbles over the pad and finds the other guy just drew a dirty picture?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:03 (twenty-two years ago)

You didn't close your tag, goofus.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

There.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

No shit, boogerbutt. Fine. I'll find another Secret Squirrel to play with.

oops (Oops), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:05 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha... boogerbutt!

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Now come on dont scare me!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I owe luna a royalty for that one. (xp)

oops (Oops), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:07 (twenty-two years ago)

(Pinkpanther -- that was oops setting the text color to white. Highlight it and you can read it.)

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:10 (twenty-two years ago)

(Some Secret Squirrel you are!)

oops (Oops), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkpanther, are you going to post in pink text from now
on?

Alfie (Alfie), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I think I will. It would be cool to get my name in pink all of the time. Oh & I like that white writing thing, very good!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I may be squirrelly, but I'm nobody's squirrel.

(x-post)

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh that was a bit insipid! :-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I think everything should be pink! So soothing, so happy! It's impossible to say rude things in pink.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

You shithead fuckface asshole duckfucking moron!

See? Nice...

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

There are a few pinks to choose from if you use names rather than RGB code, although these aren't used by all browsers:

This is DeepPink. There is also HotPink. I don't think much of LightPink.

Alfie (Alfie), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:35 (twenty-two years ago)

But you have to admit, light pink does give "duckfucking moron" that certain fluffy touch that it demands.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

< font color="puce" >

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that puce?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I like this one best I think.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Some of those colour names are awful: BlanchedAlmond, PapayaWhip and LightGoldenRodYellow, for example. Straying dangerously close to the ridiculous names they call paints:

Hitler's Kumquat

Drive-by Red

Burnt Cat

Alfie (Alfie), Friday, 10 October 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

don't forget the classic Terrifying Wank

stevem (blueski), Friday, 10 October 2003 10:04 (twenty-two years ago)

That's slightly redder than Furious Wank, isn't it?

Alfie (Alfie), Friday, 10 October 2003 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm currently typing in one of my favorite colors of all time. Hopefully, this will show as "medium slate blue".

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 10 October 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh rock on! I think I'll stick to typing like this for a bit -- or at least until I receive cease and desist orders! *laughs*

(The above HTML:

<font face="arial" color="#7b68ee">Oh roch on! I think I'll stick to typing like this for a bit -- or at least until I receive cease and desist orders! *laughs*</font>)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 10 October 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

I'm trying to look for an answer but it's not going too well :-(

Why do some hyperlinks copy&paste like this: http://www.blablabla.com/blablabla/bla , but others turn into http%3a%2f%2www.blablabla.com%3a2295%2blablabla%2f ?

StanM, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 09:45 (seventeen years ago)

= why do slashes sometimes paste OK, but sometimes turn into %2F when all I do is copy & paste?

StanM, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 09:46 (seventeen years ago)
