I just read a piece in our college paper that talked about ILX. In it (http://www.browndailyherald.com/post/stories.asp?ID=363) it said there is a place for new users to get aquainted with other new users etc. I was wondering where that place is?

Oh, that was just a joke.

Mandee, Monday, 31 March 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

http://ilx.wh3rd.net/faq.php?board=1

you can just introduce yourself here!

Yes indeed! In the meantime, shouldn't we talk about this article more? A pretty spot on assessment! If you're there, Mr. Ng, speak up! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I disagree.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to make a list of the reasons why I agree/disagree

Skottie, Monday, 31 March 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

About the assessment? I dunno, looked at as an overview of ILM/E I don't see why it wouldn't be described that way, looked at as an extremely stripped-down description. Heck, he even got the list flood currently choking (or so I say) ILM itself right.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

first off ilx is so v.v. technologically advanced (props graham) & anyway yeah.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Well then....hello. My name is Danish I'm a sophomore at Brown University. I came to Brown with one of my reasons being that i expected to meet a lot of people with wide and interesting tastes in music, as of yet I've met only a couple people like that, while at the same time this has boosted my self-image immensely. Nice to meet you all.

Esquire1983 (esquire1983), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

it doesn't mention kittens!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

How d'ya do. Welcome to us and all -- I think you've posted a few times before? Rather memorable e-mail address, see.

Part of the brilliance of Graham's work is making the board function so well without all the surface bells/whistles that run down other ones too easily. Yay! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

and hello Danish!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, this article makes us all seem sort of loving.

Mandee, Monday, 31 March 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

It seemed intensely patronizing, and I totally disagree with the assessment that ILX isn't technologically advanced. It is deliberately austere, but it has a lot of advanced functions you don't find on other message boards. I think that's part of the beauty.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Reason #10837 to post under an alias.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

but we are loving! we are like the tw33 slay3r!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I object to being called creepy.

C J (C J), Monday, 31 March 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, sorta like I said, Nicole. In terms of overt in-yer-face stuff and things ILX doesn't seem that 'advanced' and that's what people who are initially looking at the board will think, and even longtime users who can readily appreciate the difference between Greenspun and here don't notice everything. How many people, myself included, didn't know about the little 'i' thing before image tags that Graham had put in until that came up for discussion recently? The fact that the article dwells on the camaraderie of the boards and its subjects for discussion more is if anything the reason why people should come in and check things out, and I think that was conveyed in a capsule form nicely enough.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned loves Talk Talk ROFLMAO!!

Aaron A., Monday, 31 March 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

(Haha I didn't read the entire article so I was sitting there going, "Um, where are you guys getting this stuff from? He barely even mentions ILX!")

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned loves Talk Talk ROFLMAO!!

I'm trying to figure out the level of snarkiness of this and I'm utterly bewildered!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

From that link:

"The Age Old Question: Is It Art or Softcore Porn?"

Every time I visit ILX I ask myself this same question.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

(I was being snarky as I've never seen anyone derided for loving Talk Talk! In other news, what, exactly, is unrequited band love?)

Aaron A., Monday, 31 March 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Main Entry: snarky
Pronunciation: 'snär-kE
Function: adjective
Etymology: dialect snark to annoy, perhaps alteration of nark to irritate
Date: 1906
: CROTCHETY, SNAPPISH

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

When the band doesn't love you at all. Punk.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 31 March 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

The fact that the article dwells on the camaraderie of the boards and its subjects for discussion more is if anything the reason why people should come in and check things out, and I think that was conveyed in a capsule form nicely enough.

I don't think it got that right either. If I had read that article I would never have wanted to come here.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 31 March 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Cue "Too bad Nicole didn't read that article before posting to ilxor!" snarkage.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 31 March 2003 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't make me virtually shake you, Miss I-Keep-Thinking-People-Don't-Like-Me-Even-Though-They-Do.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 31 March 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Uh, what Dan said, dammit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 31 March 2003 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

From the editors of the All Music guide to experimental folksters like Momus, ILX allows mere dilettantes to rub elbows with professional musicologists.

Whoa! Does this make me a celebrity?! Finally!!!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 31 March 2003 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's unfair to call Momus a mere dilettante; he's King of the Dilettantes. (heh heh)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 31 March 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

professional musicologists

ahahahahahahaa!!!! you have got to be pulling my legs!!!

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 31 March 2003 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Somebody's paying me something, that works as a definition. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 31 March 2003 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i was provoked.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Ekaterina is making a face in that picture that suggests a prediliction towards catnip/crystal meth speedballs.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)
