So it looks like my company is shipping me off to Dayton, OH for the second time in six months. I will spend a week doing training at our company's main branch. I have been to Dayton once before, and was utterly bored and depressed the whole time. Someone, please tell me if there's anything to do there. Is there a good record store in Dayton? Maybe in nearby Cincinnati or Yellow Springs?

Hey, mike. i used to live in Springfield, not too far from there. I can't say that it's the most exciting place in the world. Beaver Creek is a good place to guy to watch cheap movies and stare at mallrats. Yellow Springs is actually very charming - lots of funny people to look at, and a nice little comic book store and independent cinema. I could live there if I was writing a book or something. Hope you like illegal drag racing. If not, join a gym. Cincinatti can be fun. And scary. Good scary.

Re joining a gym: I will (mercifully) be in Dayton for five days tops. I'll probably spend my off-hours keeping up on my schoolwork.

dude, you can always hang out by the high school and dig those groovy Dayton chicks. I mean, it's not your town, so who cares if people look at you and think you're a pervert?

My sister-in-law parties a lot in Dayton; I will have her send me a list of good bars. (There was a gay bar we went to over Christmas that had an entertainingly bad drag show, but I can't remember the name of it.)

1470 west. its the only bar you wont be mugging it up with college kids. decent dance floor too. my advice, ...dont turn on the radio, go to gem city records on fifth street, and check out the local acts at Canal street tavern.

If you're into Cold War-era technology worship, the Air Force museum in Dayton is a good way to kill a day - plus you can see the infamous Hangar 18 where the Roswell saucer crash remains are.

I dated a girl from Dayton for a while. She was a bit of a local celebrity - got into the local paper for being arrested after driving round town naked to win tickets to Duran Duran. Ah, crazy days.

nine years pass...

Last week I shopped at a Wayne Avenue Kroger that I was told was Kim Deal's primary grocery store. They had a poor beer selection but plenty of very delicious watermelon.
