An impromptu one for meeting people going to ATP, and celebrating Sarah's new job.

Sorry for the short notice and lack of steering committee involvement.

It's at the John Snow on Broadwick street in Soho, on the corner of Hopkins street. From - whenever you can get there as I have a meeting from three til five at least. Come meet AllyC!

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 April 2003 07:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Hopkins has a street now? success!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 3 April 2003 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anyone said they'll babysit Ally during the day?

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 3 April 2003 07:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not going for a drink in a newsreader.

Well okay. I might.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 3 April 2003 07:49 (twenty-two years ago)

As I said to Doomie a few weeks ago... what do you think I would rather do? Go to a boring PUB with a bunch of you I talk to on the internet every day OR ... GO ON A DATE AND GET LAID!!!

Sorry, so no offense, but Handsome Soundartist has an opening (heh heh) and he is doing an installation tonight. (How much can I keep going on about this? How proud am I of him, and how chuffed am I about him? I make me sick, I do.) Plan on getting him very drunk on free Aaaahhhhrrt paaaahhhhrty wine and dragging him home for ravishing afterwards, natch.

kate, Thursday, 3 April 2003 07:49 (twenty-two years ago)

You stick around long enough, they name things after you. Also extra points for gout. Although I have my own little street in Shoreditch already!

Ally can baby-sit himself, I'm sure. What are museums for if not entertaining bored Glaswegians?

But anyway, I shall be there for 7 or so, probably, depending on the allure of shoe emporia.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 3 April 2003 07:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It may have been said before but The John Snow is medical history as he is the blokey what invented epidemiology. From http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dbmd/snowinfo.htm

Snow was able to prove his theory in 1854, when another severe epidemic of cholera occurred in London.

...

A striking incident during this epidemic has now become legendary. In one particular neighborhood, the intersection of Cambridge Street and Broad Street, the concentration of cholera cases was so great that the number of deaths reached over 500 in 10 days. Snow investigated the situation and concluded that the cause was centered around the Broad Street pump. He advised an incredulous but panicked assembly of officials to have the pump handle removed, and when this was done, the epidemic was contained.

The pump handle has remained a symbol of effective epidemiology, and today the John Snow Pub, located near the site of the former pump in London, boasts of having the "original" handle.

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Shoes..... Maybe I should drag ally shoe shopping before going to the pub...

I've never been shopping with Ally, is he good at it, or does he perpetuate the stereotype male?

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I shall come. Essay shall be finisihed, I will be happy.Brain's switching off slighlty. eeeeeeeeerrrrrrrr . I wanna see the 'handle'

alix (alix), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha he's the opposit of what I'm like with shopping. Unless Lucy has turned him.

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i shall be in at some point (with the manitoba t-shirts!), although i intend to avoid getting drunk.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

but why Toby? joiiiiiin ussssssssss

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:10 (twenty-two years ago)

manitoba t-shirts! Toby, you're great!

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll probably pop in, although this is likely to be a no bouze FAP as I think I'm coming down with something.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i drank too much and stayed up too late last night, and i'm going out to lunch tomorrow and really really don't want to be hungover. on the other hand i suspect i will be easily swayed.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Get a couple of whisky macs down you then, best for colds, but they did no end of good after I broke my ankle

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:21 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, and U+K q: will the pinefox be there? i have CDs to put in the post in half an hour, but it would be foolish to do that if i'm going to see you this eve, pf.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:22 (twenty-two years ago)

What's a Whisky Mac?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:22 (twenty-two years ago)

That was aimed at Matt, but a whisky mac will cure anything

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:22 (twenty-two years ago)

A whisky (cheap one will do) and green ginger wine. yummy

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

but i am meeting other (non-ilx) mentalists tonite, oh no, mentalist quandry, oh no!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I shall come, though I am ill, but Camber Sands isn't Camber Sands without a good, solid throat infection. I shall bring the entire festival to its knees with a cough.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Jonesy, are you coming to ATP too? or will we have to kidnap you and put you in the boot of the car?

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 April 2003 08:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, illness has made me unclear. Blame the mucus.

I'm not going to ATP (I'm having great regret about that at the mo'), but I intend to spread my germs using you and your chaletmates as my carriers.

I hope the Pinefox comes tonight - I have something for him.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Thursday, 3 April 2003 09:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this part of your plan for taking over the world via your diseases, Mr Jones? Shame on you, evil man.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 3 April 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I bet you'll gob in all the pints when it's your round just to make sure.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 3 April 2003 09:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah ha! My efforts at tracing the source of the nasty viral disease that afflicted both me and my husband last week had lead to a dead end, but today's knowledge that Mr. Jones may have said infection has opened up new lines of questioning!

marianna, Thursday, 3 April 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Well just last week I dragged our li'l pinefox to the doctors (kicking and screaming he was) and now he's right up to date on all his shots. So you won't be giving our precious baby anything, Michael.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 3 April 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anyone actually heard from Cookie today?

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 April 2003 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I have, I'm meeting him at 4.45 at Holborn, and I guess we'll head over to soho, maybe do a bit of records shopping before we head for the pub, depends on what he wants to do, really

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 3 April 2003 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

cool, see everyone later.

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 April 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

(i have posted the pinefox's cds)

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 3 April 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be coming along too, if I may. Is Madchen not down yet? Boo if so, especially since I *forgot* (aargh) her birthday! Sorry hon, will you forgive me?

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

No, Marco, you're not allowed to come out tonight. Or ever again, mwahahaha! See you later, chicken.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Madchen's not down til after work, and is going straight to the Moores'. She did ask if people would be out on monday night though...

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

With the exception of myself and Toby, is this going to be some big Sinister tweefest where you all sit around drinking hot whisky from Thermos flasks and talking about the Moomins?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

C'mon, you'd have fun!

Don't let Chris hear you call him twee, he'll have your guts for garters!

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, what's wrong with talking about Moomins?

No Sinister Tweeist He (RickyT), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

maaaaaattttt, become one oooooooooofffffff uuuussssssssssssssss...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Funnily enough, The John Snow was the site of the First Evah Sinistah Meet-Up back in 1997. I met Tag for the first time and ended up taking him home!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm quite up for talking about moomins actually.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

What's a moomin?

Graham (graham), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay... what time are people arriving? I only work round the corner from the John Snow, and can be there for about 6.00, in time to drink lashings and lashings of beer! Hurrah!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally and I will be there by then. I'm picking him up at 4.45, he may want to go record shopping, but he's had all afternoon to do that, so we may well be heading straight there.

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt, you're funny :) Have you seen the Stonecutters episode of the Simspons?

I'll be there soon after 6, I think. And I'll keep Monday free for Lucyfest.

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I was going to pop along but this depends on whether you consider me Sinister mafia or not. NB I have been clean for years and am not going to ATP. My back hurts and I smell. I think this classifies me as an ilx0r...

sarah at work, Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

How can we celebrate your new job if your not there?!

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt, you're in bother!

Vic - I sent Ally off to Tate Modern so he may not have been, plus Selectadisc etc is just around the corner from the JS

There'll be no talk of moomins around me let me tells ya.

chris (chris), Thursday, 3 April 2003 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i fear mr brassica is protesting too much, i've seen his collection of stuffed toys (possibly)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 April 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

They were in the cupboard, hidden away

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 3 April 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah yes - third time I'v said this, but this time I AM coming. What tube is it?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 3 April 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Oxford Circus or Tottenham Court Road should do it for you

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 April 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Ho hum is this a different John Snow to the usual? Oh no good, glad to see it's the same. Right, I'll be along after I escape from my Woolwich pilgrimage... I might stop via some clothes shops first as I am irrationally hating my jumper.

sarah at work, Thursday, 3 April 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I am not now and never have been a member of Sinister. I'll be there before 6pm, maybe even 5.30ish.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 3 April 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I smell a bit too. Can I come?

Sam (chirombo), Thursday, 3 April 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll be there a bit after 7, i suspect.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 3 April 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Toby: thanks for CDs!! (I haven't got them yet, obviously)

the pinefox, Thursday, 3 April 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

that's ok. i'm afraid i was v busy so the labelling/documentation is minimal (ie it's just 3 cds with 69LS1/2/3 written on them).

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 3 April 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Right, on me way out of the door right now - should get there in about 45 mins-1 hour. i.e. half-six seven-ish.

Dunno what you lot look like, but I've got far too much brown hair, glasses and a grey fleecy type thing. Give us a wave if you spot me.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 3 April 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

just heard about this, oh well, have a good time, hope sarah's new job is going well!

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 3 April 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate you all. Much. (Nb, I love you really.)

Cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 3 April 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i've seen his collection of stuffed toys

his favourite pasttime is sticking pins in their eyes, tho!

I am a member of sinister, but can't make it as I am going to a quiz here in Oxford (quelle surprise!). Training for next Tuesday innit!

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 3 April 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

(ie it's just 3 cds with 69LS1/2/3 written on them).

P F, if I had known that you lacked a copy I would have given you mine (the real ones, as they will never be listened to again otherwise)

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 3 April 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

What a nice evening! I suspect most of the rest of the party are still trekking home. William, very nice to meet you, and Sam, you too. The rest of you are all old farts who bored me all too long ago.

(not really)

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 3 April 2003 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes was great. All those who I blithered at - nice to meet / re-meet you. I'm sorry I missed the crossword reading so I couldn't clarify my entries.

Sam (chirombo), Thursday, 3 April 2003 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

The rest of you are all old farts who bored me all too long ago.

Glad to see your sparkling wit is still in evidence, Mark;> Grr, reading all that has just made me homesick....

(And Starry, what was your opinion about tonight's FAP?)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 3 April 2003 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

the main thing i learnt last night = sushi is not a suitable alternative to sandwiches for pre-fap stomach lining. also is the weiss beer suspiciously strong? i swear i was way more drunk than i should have been on four pints.

anyway, it was great to talk to chris and vicky properly, and to have a sober conversation with matt dc. stevie t - i swear i only ever talk to you when i'm drunk. sorry if my analysis of the magnetic fields was less than coherent.

and i can't believe i'd never played the filling in the crossword game before. i feel so innocent.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 4 April 2003 04:41 (twenty-two years ago)

If people are going to ATP it'd be good to meet up... mail me.

nick.K (nick.K), Friday, 4 April 2003 05:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Stomach lining, Toby, pah! It is for pooves; I had a Cadbury's Creme Egg for tea and was HAPPY WITH IT. Which is why I was quite pished on four pints, oh dear. Still, no headache this morning, testament to the niceness of Sam Smith's Old Brewery Bitter, yum. If you were drinking the Ayingerbrau (fat man) lahrger, it's rather strong, which may explain the failure of sushi to do an adequate absorbing job.

People I hadn't met before, you are very nice. People I had, you're also nice but not novelties any more, so ner. Grand evening, chaps, and all over in time to catch the tube home, hurrah.

Oh dear I told Graham repeatedly that his beloved Avril is a weasel-faced bint. It's still true Sorry.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 4 April 2003 06:10 (twenty-two years ago)

It was a good night, thanks to Toby for the chilli chocolate and thanks to the rest of you for vastly increasing my vocabulary. Cuntkubes.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 April 2003 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

it was the weiss beer, which i think might be even stronger than the ayingerbrau. having said that i didn't bother with water when i came home but had no hangover at all this morning, so perhaps i just felt more drunk than i actually was.

i think yamuptwat or however it was spelt was probably the key one.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 4 April 2003 06:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry I missed you guys (although I have been having a very, very nice time chez Moore - ridiculous Casanova programme on telly last night and coco pops for breakfast this morning!)

Seeing as this is my last go at the internet for several days, can somebody else please organise Monday night for me? And maybe phone or text me to tell me where you'll be? Ta.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 4 April 2003 07:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I think there was talk of The George on Borough High St on Monday?

Very nice evening: good to meet William and talk to Sam and Toby (you were a model of eloquence! I ph34r I was the drunk buffoon) among the Ilxors.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 4 April 2003 07:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaaaaiiii south of the river on a Monday nite, how will I cope? Well organise it and I will turn up, haven't seen Madchen for yonks. Anyway people complained that the John Snow was crowded last night, so what do I know about choosing pubs eh? Pesky kids.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 4 April 2003 07:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Mind you the George was pretty poor the last time I was there (and AIIIEEEE - south of the river).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 4 April 2003 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry i missed this. had to a go to a gig.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 4 April 2003 07:18 (twenty-two years ago)

WHat, you were being held at gunpoint. Is it some kind of 24 thing (and in which case what hour are you on now).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 4 April 2003 07:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Too bad you pansyass North Londoner ilxors - The George it is.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 4 April 2003 07:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Pansyass, whut? My ass smells of Flower by Kenzo, thankyouverymuch. Them's fighting words, Mr theNipper,

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 4 April 2003 07:48 (twenty-two years ago)

She's not joking.

I should probably apologise to everyone for having a horrid cold and being v. stroppy.

Graham (graham), Friday, 4 April 2003 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Can we have directions to the pub? i.e., is it at the London Bridge End or down south of borough station, or what? I think I might show (I regret missing the previous chance to meet Madchen, for instance) though as it is a Monday I might leave fairly early.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 4 April 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, that was quite good in the end. Joys of looking like the drummer in an MBV covers band while stumbling round a pub filled with people dressed in suits, and having to pluck up the courage to ask these same people if they're ILX... anyway, lovely to meet all of you. Will possibly make return leg on Monday.

I'm still tryin' to work out where the hell 'yam up twat' came from...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 4 April 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I could do Borough on Monday...missed Madchen in Glasgow over Xmas so this would be a good opportunity to meet up.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 4 April 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.fancyapint.com/thepubs/pub46.htm

if you can find the borough high street exit of london bridge it's basically turn left and walk down about 200ish yards and it's on the left

theyve even got their own website http://www.georgeinn-southwark.co.uk/index1.htm

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Saturday, 5 April 2003 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Right, is this still happening tomorrow? (I currently do not have internet access at work so today's the last chance I'll get to check this).

Marcello Carlin, Sunday, 6 April 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still planning to show, so I hope so. I've emailed you my mobile number for checking on Monday, in case no one has anything to say here and there is still doubt.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 6 April 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

might turn up to this.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 6 April 2003 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Hurrah! Do you think we might persuade Ronan to come too?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 6 April 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Ach, I should be there, but a bit later on, as I'm having a family dinner, seeing as my beloved mama is in town for meetings and stuff today. Has to be near Barbican because of my ridiculously high-flying sister's poncy City job, but this is quite handy for hopping down to London Bridge after, which I shall do despite being semi-ruined from a weekend of bowling, picnicking and bouzing. Eurgh.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 7 April 2003 07:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok - to confirm details. We (at least I) will be at the George on Borough High St (follow Carslime's link above for directions) - possibly in the courtyard if the weather holds - from 6.30ish. Hooray!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 7 April 2003 08:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Definitely I'm in. Provided someone pays for flights.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 7 April 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there before JtN, I think - 6ish.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 7 April 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, I can't make it tonight but I will be in the very same location for a while tomorrow! Top jums. Sorry to miss you Lucy!

sarah at werk, Monday, 7 April 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm meeting dr vick tonight foax, sorry to miss you all

mark s (mark s), Monday, 7 April 2003 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I told Suzy I'd clean the flat before my "sister" gets here. Sigh...

kate, Monday, 7 April 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Lucy and Ally may be a bit late, as they went to Woking from ATP. I'll let her knw what the plans are. Not sure if I'll make it, I've got to meet a friend at Stansted at 7.30

Chris is adamant that he won't be going out tonight, after the ruin that was ATP, but I don't believe him...

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 7 April 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Maccch, I'm sorry guys, I do want to make it to one of these sometime, terrified as I am of you all. Can't do tonight, but I'll keep checking. Have fun, everyone!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Monday, 7 April 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry guys, I am in far too much ruin to even contemplate going out. Damn ATP for not having the musical hightlight of the whole festival until 3 in the morning of the last night and in the pub of all places.

chris (chris), Monday, 7 April 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I always seem to enjoy FAPs more when they're south of the river (probably 'cos it's much quicker to get home). Anyway, I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and special shout outs to posters I met for the first time: Mr Swygart, Ally C, Liz x and Madchen - it was an honour and a pleasure (note, Liz, NOT the same as "pleasant," ahem) to meet all of youse! ;-)

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 8 April 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

*strops in a huff*

Cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

The soppy Glasgow lot are rubbish*

*I may be one of them.

Cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello everyone. Thank you for ruining my voice. I now have a sexy husky croaky kind of thing going on. Marcello and Martin, surely BEER is a more important reason to go to the pub than me, eh?

The Pinefox has a short, neat haircut - whatever next?

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Not for me, Madchen - I wasn't drinking beer.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 10 April 2003 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)
