when apologies seem useless

we had a power surge this morning which killed my alarm clock. as a result, i have missed another sax lesson this week, which makes about three out of five that i have missed this semester (including the rescheduled lesson he set for earlier on this week, bc he was out of town last week). my thesis is due on monday, which is why the last couple of months have been so erratic. it's not costing him any money, since he gets paid whether i miss them or not, but it is a waste of his time for sure.

i feel like a complete asshole, and i'll feel even worse when i apologize knowing that under no circumstances do i expect him to believe my (legit) excuse today, or think i'm not a huge jerk. of course i will still apologize anyways, but is there any way to make up for this stupid behavior?

I think the only thing you can do is apologise for this time, point out that there was a power cut, and hope he's an understanding guy. As for the other times I don't know, if the guy's a teacher he probably understands the pressures you are under, but for sure if he's getting paid for it he might feel a little dissapointed but he's not gonna spit in your face or anything. Be as honest with him as you have been here, and if he's got an ounce of understanding he'll sympathise.
