Is Assassination Tango the dumbest movie title in recent memory?

The new Robert Duvall movie about a hit man who likes to tango. It bugs me for some reason. Shoulda called it Bang Tango! It doesn't bug me as much, however, as my two least favorite titled amurican sports movies, For The Love Of Game and Any Given Sunday. The absence of the word "the" from the first and the word "On" from the latter still makes my blood boil. I don't know why.Maybe it's because if yur gonna use a cliche as a title for your movie you could at least get the cliche right.Don't mind me. The absence of a question mark on the strokes album title pissed me off too for some reason.

Kangaroo. Jack.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 4 April 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Pluto. Nash.

oops (Oops), Friday, 4 April 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Pluto Nash & Kangaroo Jack! I smell tie-in sequel.

Scott Seward, Friday, 4 April 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I would actually go see that. At the dollar theater, sure, but I'd go.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 4 April 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

In one of the papers here in Philly they had a good haiku Kangaroo Jack review. I think this was it:
The kanga stole the
money and won't give it back
because he STOLE it

I feel this way about that new movie "Basic." It just irks me.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 4 April 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I was gonna say 'Basic', but was afraid no one else would understand

oops (Oops), Friday, 4 April 2003 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 4 April 2003 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Basic looks good to me. I like John McTiernan.

Amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 4 April 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Cradle 2 the Grave.

Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever

For real! I couldn't even tell what this was the first few times I saw the name! Is it a video game? A pay-per-view rasslin' match? A report on brand new military equipment? What?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 4 April 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

It's the vision inside your head, Nickalicious. Your subconscious come to life (except Antonio Banderas doesn't suddenly break into a smooth flow over porn-funk about making love to the trees in order to heal the world...uh, that is what your music is like, right? ;-))

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 April 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Ballistic for fucking sure.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 4 April 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

At first I was like "They made a movie from that Shakira song?"

I remember being in the movie theater when they started showing a trailer for this total perv of a movie with Sharon Stone coming off her Basic Instinct fame and one of the Baldwins. My friend and I totally busted out laughing to a dead silent movie house when the title "Sliver" came up on the screen at the end. I almost wet my pants. Boy I loved the days when I was easily entertained and always drunk.

...a smooth flow over porn-funk about making love to the trees in order to heal the world...uh, that is what your music is like, right?

IT IS NOW. :D

The thing that really bothers me about Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever is that it implies it's like the latest in some Ballistic series, even though there is only ONE Ballistic movie, and it is Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever.

If only the sheer hotness of Lucy Liu were enough to save feature films...

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 4 April 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh no, wait, I've got it: FEARDOTCOM.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 4 April 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

horror movie titles have been really bad of as of late. There is a new one with john Cusack called Identity. Signs? Really spooooooooky. I miss creative titles: Who Slew Auntie Roo? !!!!!!!

Scott Seward, Friday, 4 April 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

My friend wants to make a movie called terror.ca

slutsky (slutsky), Friday, 4 April 2003 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

terror.k12.il.us

Amateurist (amateurist), Saturday, 5 April 2003 03:47 (twenty-two years ago)

swimfan!

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 5 April 2003 03:55 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i was going to say swimfan as well
honourable mention to analyse that

robin (robin), Saturday, 5 April 2003 04:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't ya think Swimfan is kinda catchy, though? My new favorite is the Eddie Griffin movie, DysFUNKtional Family!!! Cuz his family is so weird and funky. One family member loves porn! One family member is a pimp! One ...actually, I can't remember what the rest do, but no doubt it's something funky! Kudos to Cradle 2 the Grave and Bringing Down The House on resisting the urge to title their movies, Cradle 2 Da Grave and Bringing Down Da House.

Scott Seward, Saturday, 5 April 2003 04:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't you mean Bringin' Down Tha Hizouse?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Saturday, 5 April 2003 05:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Errr... Bullet Proof Monk, anyone?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 5 April 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Amazed nobody's mentioned Eyes Wide Shut. The phrase, for all its embarassingly iknept, clumsy attempted irony, neans three fifths of five eighths of absolutely sweet Fanny Adams.

Apparently the film doesn't improve much once you leave the title behind either.

Fred Nerk, Saturday, 5 April 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Bulletproof Monk is a great title! I shall probably go to see it!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 5 April 2003 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

EWS actually works quite well thematically with the film.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Saturday, 5 April 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

"da hip hop witch"

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 5 April 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Swimfan was the worst. Especially in the trailers where it was presented as "Swimfan@". Like @ was just this cool symbol you could append to anything.

I had to see that movie. I have to see a lot of bad movies. Maybe I should start a thread about that, a Shitty Movie Roundup.
