Ah, since it isn't an emergency I don't need to come. That's handy, as it's like 8,000 miles or something.

Martin, you need to come every time.

(dang to thread, of course)

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 5 April 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

you're attending the pinback / mark gardner concert? i may do so myself, but am still undecided - determination based upon financial feasibility against cost of ticket. if i decide to ignore basic needs (i.e. rent & coffee) in hopes of hearing tripoli and something from ride, i'll tune in with confirmation tomorrow.

As far as Sonic Boom in-stores though, nothing will ever beat Bardo Pond (at the Fremont location, around two years ago)

The catch was: this in-store happened just before the big midnight sale for Radiohead's "Amnesiac". Cue a hundred or so emo high school students inside pacing around nervously with their fingers in their ears.

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 5 April 2003 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow! That's utterly fantastic... I wish there was a video.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 6 April 2003 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

It was hilarious also, because this was supposed to be Bardo's "acoustic" set, which ended up being one of the guitarists just switching his electric for a beat-up acoustic with a hissy pick-up to plug into his mass effects chain.

DOUBLY hilarious because the kids were so calm about it. They just very slowly and politely walked to the opposite corner of the store and looked at each other with their fingers in their ears. I wanted to hug all of them.

re: pinback
*puts hands in pants pockets and pulls out lining, hoping to discover a misplaced dollar. alas, 'tis only lint and a crumpled bus transfer.

j.a.e., Sunday, 6 April 2003 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn. I would ALSO have loved to have seen Arab Strap.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Sunday, 6 April 2003 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I caught the last few songs. It was just Aidan and fellow on acoustic guitar. I take it the live show would have been more orchestrated. I thought it was more fun hearing Aidan in between songs personally, and "You Shook Me All Night Long" was really amusing. But I think the far more radiant Scottish personality this weekend was Jen's very groovy friend and travel buddie, Davie!

Davie is pure 100% Glasgow grade testosterone. A very great man.

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 6 April 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I enjoyed Arab Strap, though the quietude of the set meant you could hear the lyrics loud and clear... made me want to put my hands over the ears of the small child sitting on his mom's shoulders right in front of me. And we got free mini CD singles, too!

Davie and I are flying back to NYC tonight, but once I return to Seattle for good in a couple of weeks I'm sure I'll have plenty of opportunities to see the Cripples, among other good local bands.

Jen (nstop), Sunday, 6 April 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

The last time I saw Arab Strap, Aidan spent the entire gig staring at my girlfriend.

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 6 April 2003 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

If I'd been in Seattle yesterday, I'd have spent the entire gig staring at my girlfriend too.

Poo.

ron (ron), Monday, 7 April 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

DB, you can guess how pissed I am to have missed Arab Strap. Bloody lack of proximity....
