how do you know he's six?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 5 April 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

His tattoo says so. (My guess.)

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 5 April 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

violent computer games are good for young kids...i forget why though.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 5 April 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

what is the world coming to etc etc.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 5 April 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

You know that 'first person shooter' is like a genre-meme now, Anth, right? You sure it's Doom? 'Cos that's some fucked up shit right there. Doom! In 2003!

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 5 April 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Q: What's the difference between a 40 year old Doom addict and a 6 year old Doom addict?
A: The 6 year old sleeps in a bedroom, not a basement

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 5 April 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Doom is clearly so completely out of fashion that it probably no longer exists. This is proven by the fact that I have played it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 5 April 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

yeh all the cool 6 year olds are down the new shit, like Perfect Counter-Halo or some shit

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 5 April 2003 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

We uncool 43 year olds are 'down with' Minesweeper. Is that cool and cutting edge?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 5 April 2003 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

that's the bleeding edge.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 5 April 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

the bleating edge

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 5 April 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh, good. I am (as far as I know...) the world's greatest player of a bleeding edge game!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 5 April 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually had a goal of playing every single Free Cell game in sequence (back when there weren't 1,000,000 like in the WinXP version). That I didn't give up on that idea until I'd reached about 1,200 games reveals the fact that I HAVE NO LIFE.

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 5 April 2003 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i would really admire that kid if he was playing Wolfstein 3D

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Saturday, 5 April 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

seconded

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Saturday, 5 April 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

apparently he got a new blue car.

michael wells (michael w.), Saturday, 5 April 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't there a new Doom out?

And stuff like Doom and scary fairy tales is good for little kids because its helps them learn about stuff like death and violence in a safer setting.

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Monday, 7 April 2003 00:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, much better than like they used to do in the old days, when Dad would shoot Mom with rocket launchers to show Billy what life was all about

Millar (Millar), Monday, 7 April 2003 01:37 (twenty-two years ago)

at a New Year's party I saw some fifth-graders playing GTA: Vice City. Then the dad came in and started shouting "THERE! RUN DOWN THAT COP! RAPE THAT PROSTITUTE!" etc. etc.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 7 April 2003 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

That happened to me once, but we were playing hopscotch, not GTA. It was awkward.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 7 April 2003 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

My mom let me watch The Exorcist when I was like 4 or 5, and I'm totally fine, I think more kids should do that instead of the mamby pamby coddle jobs we got going on now. I'm more of a man than most men of my generation = totally weak.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 7 April 2003 03:39 (twenty-two years ago)

All the sluts in GTA:VC are consenting.

Leee (Leee), Monday, 7 April 2003 04:45 (twenty-two years ago)

My parents let me in on some sort of horrorfest when i was little and it didn't do me any harm in the long run. At the time though i ended up having to hide under my covers at night because i thought there were things coming to get me PLUS if someone broke in through my window they might not see me under the covers and just steal my stuff without attacking me with a chainsaw or stealing me fr some sort of evil scheme or cheap labour.

I won't even start on my whole monsters hiding in the bathroom theory.

Jeffrey (Danny), Monday, 7 April 2003 06:29 (twenty-two years ago)

This is proven by the fact that I have played it.

I second Martin's comment. I have played Doom. In 1994!

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 7 April 2003 06:46 (twenty-two years ago)

"hiding under the stifling hot covers because if monsters couldn't see you, they couldn't get you" = classic

luna (luna.c), Monday, 7 April 2003 07:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I wouldn't let my kids play Doom until they're at least 8.

Andrew (enneff), Monday, 7 April 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder what people thought yesterday when I was in this internet cafe playing the new Postal 2 demo. A game in which the goal is essentially to "go postal". Let me describe what I did:

Leaving my trailer early one morning, I picked up a shovel and beat my neighbours dog to death. Then I kicked his door in, sliced his wife's head off, and stole his shotgun and a tank of gasoline from his shed. Walking out into the street, I shot down four or five random people, and kicked their bodies into a pile which I doused in gasoline and lit with a match.

And there's much, much more. Involving an arab shopkeeper who told me to "get to the back of the line, infidel" after which I shot him in the face, and he pulled out a machine gun and started hollering in what I guess is some sort of arab fashion.

What the fuck!?!

Andrew (enneff), Sunday, 20 April 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

As long as you're not six, I assume no one cares.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 20 April 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a Postal 2?!?!?!

Postal 1 was amazing. Does it still have that wacky isometric early-FIFA style view? Or is it all FPS-y? Why don't I just go look it up in google?

Cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 20 April 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

It's first person (Unreal 2k3 engine, as far as I know) and fucking fantastic.
