Pictures. Paintings. Posters. I dunno. Something that could be framed and hung on a lounge wall.

Where could I get something like this? How much?

(Sorry for this being a really boring question.)

It was worth a try, though, right? :)

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Sunday, 6 April 2003 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

(It was a present I wanted to buy for my elderly mother, you know! I'm not completely selfish. She's a big dolphin fan.)

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Sunday, 6 April 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

There is even a dolphin religion in Nelson, NZ.

Leee (Leee), Monday, 7 April 2003 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Some of the latter are pretty suitable. Thanks. I don't suppose any of these are available anywhere in UK funds, though?

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Monday, 7 April 2003 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

AllPosters ships internationally.

Leee (Leee), Monday, 7 April 2003 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, it's just the currency exchange, charges, etc. No matter, I will save this link for future reference.

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Monday, 7 April 2003 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah I see. Excuse the ignert Yank please.

Leee (Leee), Monday, 7 April 2003 00:42 (twenty-two years ago)

SHARKS ARE WHERE IT'S AT.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 7 April 2003 02:04 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah there are fuckloads of dolphin prints here in nz - every garage sale has one, and one in three suburban houses has one hung really high on the 'lounge' wall.

Clare (not entirely unhappy), Monday, 7 April 2003 05:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely these are available in every shop that caters for dippy teenage girls and sells novelty mobile phone holders ect.? I mean, if there's an Athena or something similar still going anywhere near you it'll have the tacky stuff squirrelled away somewhere. I don't mean to sound snobby, but there was a major dolphin fetish at my school for some reason, and backlit swathes of blue give me the heeby-jeebies even now.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 7 April 2003 09:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I'm not after anything I'd call tacky. Dolphins aren't inherently tacky are they?

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Monday, 7 April 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

No, but they are frequently represented in the form of cheap jewellery charms in the Argos catalogue, along with jointed gold clown pendants with semi-precious stones for eyes. Dolphins are, I'm sure, lovely creatures, but their primary purpose as depicted in artistic endeavours seems to be as indicators of cheap spirituality. This means it may be difficult to find something actually nice and classy.

You might be right. I was thinking of something straightforward and tasteful, not pseudo-arty or symbolic or anything.

There is a place in Lovely Birmingham that might have something, but I don't know what it's called or remember where it is... (In my defence, I'm referring to a nine-year-old memory.)

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Monday, 7 April 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

nine year olds know nothing.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 7 April 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I meant something I remembered from nine years ago, at which time I slightly older than nine.

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Monday, 7 April 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

thought so.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 7 April 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i think dolphins have been thoroughly claimed by tacky and there's no going back for them. it's sad cause, like whales, they have such lovely eyes...

Clare (not entirely unhappy), Monday, 7 April 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I have actually seen non-tacky dolphin paintings, but they were in NZ, and I can't remember the artist's name. They were pointilist. (if that's the word I want)

isadora (isadora), Monday, 7 April 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't like pointilism...makes me feel like i'm looking at a colour blindness test.

Clare (not entirely unhappy), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 07:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Dolphins are colour blind.

Erik, Tuesday, 8 April 2003 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Does that make them less inclined to paint in a pointilist style?
