public stainings

my current artschool project asks me to redesign a local bridge. i'm wanting to incorporate graffiti/some form of public markmaking. i'm also trying to research previous examples. all i've found thus far is jochen and esther gerz's "monument against faciscm" in hamburg (you could argue that the included 'model for participation' inscribes the actual possibilities of public interaction, kinda crypto-facist in itself)(i wouldn't though). so is there more of this stuff? what are the inherent problems? is there any translucent material sturdier than glass but also fairly easily cleanable?

I thought this thread was going to be about having accidents in public.

okay, a less specific q: what's the most interesting/fun/whatever graffiti you've encountered? i don't want this to be ltd to sloganeering (tho that counts), but i mean how did it work within the context of the space, have you ever done it and why did you do it and why did you do it THERE and how does the graffiti in yr city differ to other stuff you've seen? (and why might this be?)

you know, i'd really like some kind of reasonable response to this. it's important to me. why else would i revive it 3 times in one week? i didn't want to drag him into this, but mark s told me to ask this question on ilx. so don't just answer for me, answer for him.
