i love this movie and think it is really smart and funny

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 6 April 2003 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I was just thinking about this movie this week. It's fantastic; Geena Davis was born to kick ass.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 6 April 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

haha i met someone recently who played a PIRATE in cutttthroat island (sadly only on the cutting room floor in the final edit)

they said geena davis = super-professional AND sweetheart but renny harlin = assholish asshole

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 6 April 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn. I taped the Perfect Storm instead - the FX sounded appealing.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 6 April 2003 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin the FX are the only appealing thing in Perfect Storm ( = a "she's in the attic!" movie... )

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 6 April 2003 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember seeing this in the movie theater and wondering why it didn't do better. The only time Geena Davis has ever been a badass and has snapped the neck of a deer.

Carey (Carey), Sunday, 6 April 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't remember anything about this film at all. When did it come out?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 6 April 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

This is a great, great movie. It completely wears its influences on its sleeve, too. ;)

Dan I., Sunday, 6 April 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

The movie's a trip but I can't say I'm sold on the glory of Geena Davis (I find her unconvincing as a human being, let alone a cool one). I think there's other actress who might have done it better. For some reason Frances McDormand keeps coming to mind. Susan Sarandon too. Davis is tolerable though. The story's MAD fun.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 6 April 2003 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

That whole bit with the daughter parroting back to her mom,"Life is Pain!". Yikes! At least that's what I remember her saying. That movie is beautiful.

Scott Seward, Sunday, 6 April 2003 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Geena Davis is so fucking unbelievably HOTtT that I even saw that godawful pirate movie in the theater (albeit the dollar theater, midnight movie)

Yeah this one was quality. I remember the previews were being played all the time in the cafeteria at UTK my freshman year, and that stupid Enigma song was on and I was thinking "this is the new Carmina Burana" and I was RIGHT - eg that song that is always being used in previews to make the film seem more epic and involving than it actually is and is never played during the movie - and one of my female buddies turned to me after seeing it and asked "so is your mom like that?" in a disturbingly straightforward manner.

Millar (Millar), Monday, 7 April 2003 02:02 (twenty-two years ago)

this movie is piss.

mark s, you are silly.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 7 April 2003 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Hold on, back to the important question -- IS your mom like that, Millar?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 April 2003 02:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin the FX are the only appealing thing in Perfect Storm

Yeah, besides my future husband George Clooney.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 7 April 2003 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

See, the advantage is that for the wedding George can wear the Batman costume and Ally can be Harley Quinn.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 April 2003 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

visions of James Blount as Mister Freeze

Millar (Millar), Monday, 7 April 2003 02:52 (twenty-two years ago)

But who would be Catwoman?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 7 April 2003 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Post that pic of yr sis in the shiny pants again

Millar (Millar), Monday, 7 April 2003 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Millar's going to carry out some 'military reconaissance.'

(Dear God, why did I type that?)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 April 2003 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yr both pervy.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 7 April 2003 03:11 (twenty-two years ago)

has anyone else ever noticed that Geena Davis looks just like Nicky Wire? in spite of that, she's fab.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 7 April 2003 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah I like this though I didn't see it last night (its all aim from now on). samuel L jackson (I think) and geena are a good pair.

justyn- have you lost yr mind?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 7 April 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I liked this as well -- but I saw this a long time ago on cable when I had the flu so I don't know for certain if I really liked it or I just liked it because I was delirious.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 7 April 2003 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I've only seen the first one. This emphatic sequel sounds good though.

chester (synkro), Monday, 7 April 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

The film remains fab

the pinefox, Tuesday, 8 April 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

The film's okay, but the script (by Shane Black) is VERY worth reading on it's own, though not subtle in the slightest.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

ten years pass...

watching now. not very good, though there are flashes of greatness.

can't tell if it's davis' fault or harlin's but she misses a lot of opportunities that are sitting right there in the script. charlize would have crushed this.

resulting post (rogermexico.), Friday, 12 July 2013 05:09 (eleven years ago)

eight months pass...

have been watchng this movie maybe 4-6 times now. vhs in 2014. it's quite heavy, for Hollywood

zxc, Wednesday, 26 March 2014 19:52 (eleven years ago)

lol samuel l jackson: unmentioned.
my schizophrenia i block overtones of pedophilia :/
movies are REALLY weird in a schizophrenic context, so that i want to make a play on the title of the movie as the scene from "the spirit".. .

zxc, Wednesday, 26 March 2014 19:54 (eleven years ago)

I remember a week or two after 9/11 watching Louis Farrakhan on public access cable on the treadmill TV at the gym, and he was telling people to watch this movie, that it holds some kind of truth.

That's So (Eazy), Wednesday, 26 March 2014 19:55 (eleven years ago)

huh. hardreading scripts is another issue.

zxc, Wednesday, 26 March 2014 19:56 (eleven years ago)

still watching, still haven't paid attention. 10-15x now
