I'm curious as what traits make a female attractive or not. post some pictures of someone who you do not find attractive, but maybe you could see how someone else would find them attractive. (no obviously unattractive people, only subtly)

What exactly is 'objective' about this thread? It's based entirely on individual, subjective impressions.

I consider myself extremely unattractive, for instance, but I wouldn't try to claim that was an objective position.

I've heard the stuff about the 'laws' of attraction before, particularly the stuff about symmetry, etc.

Actually, didn't John Cleese host a show about this two years or so back? They were showing people this raft of photos ranging from beautiful to totally fucked up by acromegaly or skin cancer. This was kind of silly, because a lot of the photos were really bizarre looking by any 'regular' standards and the last few barely looked human. We know there are approximate signifiers of normal and attractive... these studies just state the obvious at tedious length.

My face is not symmetrical. My mouth is a little slanted and I have a nose fracture. One ear is slightly bigger, although not noticeably. These 'defects' are common, and I don't think they're what makes me unattractive specifically. (Kylie Minogue has one eyebrow higher than the other, for instance.)

One side of my face is fatter than the other, fact. It's very strange, I have a lot of definition on one side of my face, especially jawline, but my chin is like "smaller" on the other side. I don't know what this implies.

I think I understand what A Nairn is trying to get at, as someone who is often very attracted to ladies who other people don't find particularly "hot". Fr'instance, I find Maggie Gyllenhaal totally sexy; my roommate on the otherhand (a girl, btw) says "she looks like a dog". I wish I could offer some insights into this, but instead I'm just gonna end this post with a nonsequitor purple monkey dishwasher.

I once had a teacher in school try to explain that people's attractiveness is proportional to the symmetry of their face; that symmetrical faces = more attractive & asymmetrical faces = less attractive. Ally is excellent evidence of why that teacher was totally full of shit.

My nose is a mess because I walked into a lamppost about 13 years ago. I was distracted, but luckily, very close to home. Ironically, the doc who stitched me said I could probably get a nose job on the NHS if it bothered me, but nan had just died and I had better things to worry about.

It'd cost £3,000 to have fixed now! Grrr.
