This movie was on IFC last night and it was so hilarious/tragic. what a film. Chris holmes from WASP getting drunk in his pool, wearing his leather WASP suit and his mum next to him. that band Odin totally sucked. have any of you seen Decline part 3??? i apparently have some friends in that one.

chaki (chaki), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never seen the third Decline. I really really really want to. Anyone have a copy?

I rented Part I, Part II, and Suburbia on the same fateful day in 1988 (or early '89 maybe). I was 12. I think I rented Repo Man a week later. That was a very crucial stage in my personal development.

Required viewing for every person who has ever, or might ever, let a musician move in with them.

I love the interviews with Kiss, Lemmy, Aerosmith, Ozzy and Poison, but I despise Spheeris's condescention and exploitation of the less confident, more deluded people in the film. That she'd fake footage of Ozzy spilling orange juice (which she later admitted in an Onion A.V. club interview) shows where she was coming from. Plus her decision to treat Megadeth as an evolutionary step beyond these bands hints at all that would suck about the '90s. But there are SOOO many rockin' quotes in this film that it's still necessary viewing.

yah whats up with the stupid megadeth worshipping at the end?

chaki (chaki), Tuesday, 8 April 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, i can go rent it!

Speaking of 'Heavy Metal Parking Lot' I just heard that there's a 'Neil Diamond Parking Lot' around somewhere too.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd LOVE to see this on DVD now....only if they have an extra of where those guys in ODIN are today.

Anyone see the THIRD "Decline..." about the gutterpunk phenomenon? It made the first two seem like Disney films.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw it when it came out in the theaters. The bands weren't anything at all but the personal stories were pretty good/harrowing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 June 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, the bands were barely relevant (basically Rudimentary Peni wannabes....if one can imagine such a pathetic thing). But the personal stories, as Ned says, were truly the stuff of trajedy.

I just heard that there's a 'Neil Diamond Parking Lot' around somewhere too.

All of the "parking lot" movies are downloadable on Jeff Krulik's web site

That she'd fake footage of Ozzy spilling orange juice (which she later admitted in an Onion A.V. club interview)

Can you give a link for this please? I've googled and searched the onion for it but nothing :-(

april in omaha, Tuesday, 8 June 2004 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

seven years pass...

The shots of Lemmy in this are so great..

CeCe Deville is shockingly not an asshole, whereas Bret Michaels is clearly on speed.

I think this is on Google Video.

Also I feel really bad for that old guy when he tries to get the crowd to chant for Odin and nobody follows his lead.
