Puppies: classic or dud

Puppies. They run around yapping playfully before falling asleep. They do little poopies everywhere. They're always bright and enthusiastic except when they're asleep. And they grow up into big friendly dogs.

so, classic, really.

DV, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

They do little poopies everywhere.

Animals are great, but why is it considered cute when they shit themselves?

Puppies are annoying. I like my beasts quiet. You might as well have a baby.

Tom, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dogs = mobile excrement/saliva generators. Who needs 'em?

dave q, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Humans = mobile excrement/saliva generators. Who needs 'em?

Nick, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(dogs = horrid things) + (puppies = small dogs) -> (puppies = small horrid things)

Richard Tunnicliffe, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not as classic as kittens.

And puppies still = breasts in common North London parlance.

Emma, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Classic. Fookin' Haterz.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Classic. Labrador puppies are proof of the existence of God.

Sam, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

puppies a re cute but I aint cleanin up after em. And I hate wen they play the "bite you " game

Pennysong Hanle y, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Emma has cast this entire thread in a new light for me.

Dan Perry, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Puppies grow into dogs. Plus, they smell like evil incarnate. Therefore, dud.

Ally, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Puppy breath is COOOL. I hate Labs, they fart more than a whole pub full of picled egg eaters. And moult.

suzy, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My hush puppies were classic. Until one of'em bit me in the lip. I have two basset artesien normandies.

nathalie, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

In my experience, hush puppies = southern US dish consisting of corn bread fried in bacon fat. Hopefully this explains my puzzled reaction to Nathalie's post.

Dan Perry, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

In the UK, Hush Puppies is an uncool shoe brand, which makes Nathalie's tale just as baffling.

Nick, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nath means basset hounds, eg. the dog on the Hush Puppies box.

suzy, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes, I meant basset artesien normandie. I always say hush puppies because so few people know what the right name is for those stubborn dogs. Nick, I know about the shoebrand of the same name. When we went on a trip to London, my mother nearly became hysterical when she saw a hush puppie ad in Harrod's.

nathalie, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You are all bad people for not liking cute little puppies.

DV, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I like cute puppies. I just don't like young dogs. (Thank you, Emma!)

Dan Perry, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So are you going to go home and play with your puppies, Dan?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

In a degree of level of fun/adorablility:
puppies
kittens
cats
dogs.

They're all good though.

maria, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I refuse to answer Ned's question on a searchable forum. Or, indeed, in any forum.

(That means "yes".)

God, I'm going to get killed if my wife ever ventures onto this forum...

Dan Perry, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't know why you put your neck on the line so casually, Dan, because you know your woman could take you. That girl's fiercer than my mom, who somehow manages to bully around my hot-tempered, loud- mouthed, 6'4", 245lb dad around. You are a true kamikaze and I salute you.

Ally, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Life is not worth living unless it is lived dangerously. I laugh in the face of impending wrath. HA!

(Besides, I can run faster than she can.)

Dan Perry, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

She might want to test that assertion.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hey what about Lil Bow Wow, wouldn't you like to boot his ass?

duane, Friday, 7 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one year passes...
I love puppies... but not the little presents they leave for me in the yard to pick up..lol

lezah, Friday, 29 August 2003 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Pug puppies = the uberpuppy. Most cute, most playful, most messy, most chaotic.

Despite the admitted drawback of the body fluids & biteyness & stuff, CLASSIC.

And I refuse to compare them with the also-CLASSIC kittens, 'cause they're just not competing on the same terms. Apples & oranges.

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Friday, 29 August 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, puppies are classic (as long as someone else is cleaning up after them). It's just that they grow into dogs, which bark and bite and make messes on an even bigger scale, without being nearly so cute.

LOVE US!

Aw, if you get the right breed for you, your puppy will be classic no matter what age he/she is. My puppy's about six years old and I still love her!

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 29 August 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Puppies are classic when someone else cleans up after them/potty trains them/etc., and I just get to stop by and play with them.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 29 August 2003 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, exactly

.. nah, I'm just not gettin' it..

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 12 April 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate all dogs. neuter them all i say. a painless way 2 get rid of this horrendous error of nature.

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Monday, 12 April 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Puppies?! Classic. First saute them in butter. Then stew them with Muscadet, mirepoix, clove of garlic, bay leaf, pepper, and thyme. Add carrots, parsnips (or potatoes) and for last 30 minutes, cepes or wood ears. Great for a cold night.

Felix Caninicide (Hereward), Monday, 12 April 2004 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

not puppy-size, but i didn't feel like searching for an adult-dog thread:

Is that dog or a panda?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 12 April 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a panda dog!

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 12 April 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy crap, if I wanted a dog, I'd want that one.

(I don't object to dogs, it just wouldn't be fair to have one where I live right now.)

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 12 April 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha. I was going to answer "classic" to this thread's query but during the scan-through of this thread I came to realize that I'd already posted on this thread once before!

Anyway, I so don't get the anti-puppy (or anti-dog) hatred around here. My dog's been an absolute savior in this household. She's the only presence in my life that's shown me nothing but pure love and for that I'm incredibly grateful. Cats? Too aloof and uppity for my tastes. I like seeing my dog wag her tail when I get home. I love rubbing her belly. I love hugging her.

Puppies and dogs remain CLASSIC to me.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

four years pass...

I have a very sleepy warm pug dozing on me right now. Her little face is resting on my chest and she's snoring up a stom. So classic.

Zangelbert Bingledack (ENBB), Monday, 13 October 2008 11:21 (seventeen years ago)

I want a puppy. I wonder if my parents would notice if I stole her. They have two - it's not fair!

Zangelbert Bingledack (ENBB), Monday, 13 October 2008 11:28 (seventeen years ago)

chihuahua puppies are the best.

cameron carr, Monday, 13 October 2008 18:16 (seventeen years ago)

I'm beginning to regret getting this Cavapoo. He's turning out to be more poodle than Cav in temperament.

Hello this is my puppy Enid who is mostly classic with some puppy-related dud qualities:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPxiHd2BOpo

Also, my wife has rather quickly turned into one of those record-the-puppy-and-put-her-on-youtube people.

joygoat, Saturday, 6 June 2009 03:47 (sixteen years ago)

I might try this at dinner with tonight's hamburger. The food-wrestling I mean. It looks like fun!! That's some serious play-addiction there.. Also: CUET

VegemiteGrrrl, Saturday, 6 June 2009 03:50 (sixteen years ago)
