How To Keep My Brain From Turning To Mush (or, how to keep my grey cells while frying in the Florida heat)

I've been down here in Florida visiting my mum for a couple of months. This is truly one of those areas you need a car for getting around. Since we have only just gotten the solo family vehicle insured, I've finally been able to start looking for part-time work while I'm here.

As clearly this is a job in itself, I expect it to take a while. Biggest obstacle? Distance from one area to another. Lack of public transport is another.

So, how can an intelligent gal fill her time....without losing her mind?

find a public library and check out some books, then go read 'em at the beach.

Read. Make some friends. Watch tv tous les temps. Sleep more.

As I'm currently sitting in one of the few public libraries round this area, we must have ESP.

Sarah, stop pointing that microscope into my brain!;> But seriously, none of my mates live anywhere close. (Try looking for any of the neighbours; you had better be ready for a long wait.)

Cable TV: too many channels with nothing on. I've got proof;>

They say great minds think alike, Nicole.

Do you have a DVD player? get Netflix and watch a different Criterion Collection flick every night!

Exercise. Good for the mind, good for the body, etc. Keeps the depressions away. (Do as I say, not as I do)

Its actually been rather cool this year, at least in Tampa. But this place really is hell, transportation wise. And cutting down trees and building vast expanses of paventment only makes things hotter.

Learn to fish - fun for hours.

Florida sucks. I don't know what to tell you. If you get a chance to make a trip, go to St. Augustine, Florida's one redeeming factor in my mind. Otherwise, yeah, learning an instrument is a good one.
