If Saddam played Stratego...

The most loved game thread inspired some tangential musings:

1. TRUE OR FALSE - There are only two kinds of people in this world...
   a. those who guard their flag with bombs for protection from their opponent, and...
   b. those who mislead their opponent by obscuring their flag amidst seemingly inconsequential pieces.

2. SHORT ESSAY - In Operation Stratego Freedom, where is Saddam;
   a. beneath bombs over Baghdad, or...
   b. amidst seemingly inconsequential provincials?

I'll take your answers off air.

Stratego might actually be the best game ever. I reckon Mr Hussein is masquerading as a Scout and right now, he's using his special movement abilities to skip over the border into Syria.

Personally, I prefer a combination of bombs and decoys to mislead my opponent and simultaneously protect my flag. Oh, and I always keep a Colonel back to mop up if anything should get through the mineflieds.

Does anyone ever manage to actually use the Spy for anything other than getting blown up on bombs or taken by stoopid Sergeants?

1: false
Sometimes you could have your flag in the front row, or even better all bombs in the front row.

2: I actually think that Saddam is off leaping into squares that are no long in the board. He may be in one of the river squares or behind the board somewhere on the carpet. Also maybe they have the setup where there are bombs surrounding a piece, but when the miners get into the underground chamber it just turns out to be some goofy look alike. (that then proceeds to kill the miner.)

"but the spy can kill the commander!"

Indeed he can, yes, but when does he ever? I mean he usually gets whacked by shitty Scouts or the like, or spends the whole game tracking what you think is the Marshall and when you finally strike, it turns out to be the fucking General.

Meanwhile, the Bin Laden piece is deep within the couch. The North Korea piece is in your shoe but you're ignoring it.

Who would be the piece that's not actually in play but is rubbing against your prostate verrry nicely at the moment?

Dick Cheney.

Indeed he can, yes, but when does he ever?

But one tactic that most beginner Stratego players fall for, is: you take your "2" go on a rampage thru the opposing ranks. Bring an "8" to clear the mines, but also bring your Spy to trail the 2 very very closely. Soon, the idiot on the other side of the board will bring out his "1" to take out your "2"... Then once you have his "1" identified, KILL KILL KILL!
