Would anyone like a job in football?

If so, click here...

More info out what we do can be found on the site.

To sum up, the plus points are nice new offices in a decent part of town, well served by boozohs. We have snazzy new macs in the office and broadband (naturellment) and we have a often busy, sometimes tiring workload that is ultimately rewarding as we're the nice guys in football, who meet nice people at clubs all the time who restore your faith in human nature and make you realise that people care about things as passionately as you do. And you really get the chance to make a difference. The downside is that there's often weekend and evening work, the pay ain't the greatest, and you share a working environment with me. Though I'd naturally consider that to be a major and unique selling point.

Good luck to anyone who applies.

Ps - Please feel free to pass on this information to anyone you know who might be interestedor on other boards or lists. We aren't advertising it in newspapers, so our newsletter and the interweb are the two fora we're using, so anything people can do to ensure wide dissemination would be greatly appreciated.

Bloody hell! Yes please! Would I even have a hope of getting it, Dave?

Mark C (Mark C), Sunday, 13 April 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

It wouldn't be appropropriate to really answer that Mark I think - I won't be on the interview panel - all I can say is that what we're looking for are people who like the work we do and want to be part of it. Beyond that, there's a skill set that we'd need applicants to demonstrate they possess that enables them to do the job.

I'm happy to field questions about the job and the work etc in a factual sense, and offer my own opinions on certain aspects of the skill set, but as I say, I don't think it appropriate to pass comment on anyone in particular - as I know several people from various clubs who will doubtless be applying, it wouldn't be fair to anyone. All I can say is two things really:

1) I'm excited by this appointment - I think it's an exciting time for the organisation and I'm really looking forward to working with whoever I end up working with - I'm convinced we'll have a greats set of applications from people with varied skills and experiences, and that whoever ends up getting it will be a great addition to our team.

2) A personal reflection would be that there's a certain 'political' committment to the work we do that means occasionaly (and at times, not so occasionally) whilst every normal instinct in your body says 'go home', something in you says 'no, go to that meeting at short notice in Dover, because ultimately, it what the job's about and why we've been given tax-payers money etc etc'. That's not meant as some self-aggrandising statement of my virtue - it's just a feeling we've all had in the team, and at times, you do indeed just go home and think fuck it (an exhausted and hungry Development Officer is ultimately a less useful Development Officer) but as a voluntary sector body, there's a set of values and ethics that we're ultimately seeking to put into practice and whoever gets the job I think needs to be committed to those.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Cabbage is presumably too content scoffing selling Haagen Dasz to the masses?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Carsmile to thread (possibly more importantly, Mrs Carsmile to thread).

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

can't one of these be located in, say, Glasgow?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

not at all Mark, and can we get HD googleproofed please so I can go about this properly?

chris (chris), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Ailsa - we might be appointing someone else in Scotland soonish - we've had the executive fund our work for 2 more years; will post here if that happens.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Cheers, that sounds much like my dream job.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

ilx is truly the nu-masons

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 23:51 (nineteen years ago)

Coo!

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 1 June 2006 09:46 (nineteen years ago)

Uh oh - bloodbath in Scottish ILx starts here...

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 1 June 2006 09:52 (nineteen years ago)

Dave, is that offer of extra background info still available since it's not your office? If so, can I email you?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 1 June 2006 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

Why bloodbath? The lady is clearly the lady to beat here.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 1 June 2006 12:05 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, that's true. I thort there might be more interest but Ailsa is clearly the woman for the job.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 1 June 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe everyone is being sensible and not trumpeting their intentions all over teh internets?

I'm fairly sure other people will be applying. Maybe not from here, but, y'know. Fair fight, best man wins, all that stuff. Who says I'm definitely applying anyway?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 1 June 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

I've always wanted to move to Scotland.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 1 June 2006 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

Every time I click on this thread it's always the wrong football.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 1 June 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

You mean the right football. The kicky kicky one not the throwy throwy one.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 1 June 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

Because all the Scottish ilxORZ are gentlemen, we're standing down for ailsa because she hasn't got a job at the moment.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 1 June 2006 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

WHat are you trying to say. Us English IlXor's aren't gentlemen.

Actually i would apply but it looks like the interview date clashes with an England World Cup match so I might not bother.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 1 June 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

Because all the Scottish ilxORZ are gentlemen, we're standing down for ailsa because she hasn't got a job at the moment.

Indeed. Get one footy job ailsa!

(and share the perks with your friendly footy travelling companion)

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 1 June 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

Perks = trips to Cliftonhill and Recreation Park. You're welcome :-)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 1 June 2006 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

three months pass...
Another job, this time in England

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 7 September 2006 07:04 (eighteen years ago)

I would like millions of pounds to kick a ball.

S- (sgh), Thursday, 7 September 2006 07:17 (eighteen years ago)

bah, what do you need a driving licence for? you get the train everywhere don't you?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 7 September 2006 08:53 (eighteen years ago)

Has the Scottish one been filled yet?

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 7 September 2006 08:56 (eighteen years ago)

Heh, I could actually apply for that - I have the quals and experience and everything! Doesn't strike me as a hyuge salary though - there was a fundraising officer job going at Essex uni recently for 26-31K. Also, I like Glasgow too much :)

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 7 September 2006 09:32 (eighteen years ago)

that's the charity sector for you though innit, we're much better off in education ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 7 September 2006 09:39 (eighteen years ago)

Please give at least two referees, at least one of whom should be your current employer.

Why do companies ask for this? Do they only want people honest enough to tell their current employers they're looking for work?

=== temporary username === (Mark C), Thursday, 7 September 2006 09:55 (eighteen years ago)

to stop people bullshitting on their CVs presumably

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 7 September 2006 09:58 (eighteen years ago)

Please give at least two referees

This is going to confuse people applying for football jobs.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 7 September 2006 09:59 (eighteen years ago)

Mark - it's because usually they have the most relevant things to say about you as as an employee.

Carsmile - driving licence is desireable, not essential - cos sometimes, the places we go are not very served by cars, and it can be handy, but isn't essential at all.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 7 September 2006 10:01 (eighteen years ago)

erm, Collina and Hugh Dallas - ah didnae work fur him but ma pal panned his windaes in efter the three nuthin game

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 7 September 2006 10:03 (eighteen years ago)

Please give at least two referees

Ah, this might be the problem. In Italian "to give" and "to bribe with gold watches, job offers and hookers" are the same verb. It was all a misunderstanding!

=== temporary username === (Mark C), Thursday, 7 September 2006 10:08 (eighteen years ago)

dude, you can't afford me anyhoo ;)

although this thread revival did make me finally get round to re-joining my trust, so it has achieved that at least :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 7 September 2006 10:16 (eighteen years ago)

Has the Scottish one been filled yet?

Has it? I got teh fear about applying, and didn't. Now I'm regretting it.
