Metallica: Iggy Pop dug 'em, everyone dug 'em, then they released a video... Old Metallica is weirdly mysterious... Like Led Zeppelin....

Dude, how the fuck did a bunch of douchebag early 20-somethings make such music? Before you answer, refamiliarize yourself with Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppoets.

Puppets, not "Puppoets".

I thought the line went they became pansies when they hooked up with Bob Rock.

Leee (Leee), Monday, 14 April 2003 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

when did that happen? the 'black' album was when i became fedup with them.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 14 April 2003 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)

And that indeed was the Bob Rock album (or rather the first time they worked with him).

Bob Rock ruined so many bands, Metallica, Motley Crue, The Cult... What is that cockfarmer doing these days anyway? Wallowing in his own personal hell of suckdom?

Puppoets like Ezra Dogpound?

I quite liked the Black Album, but it's a really shitty Metallica album. I've heard rumour after rumour that the new Metallica album (if it's ever released) will be much more like their pre-black albums.

Andrew (enneff), Monday, 14 April 2003 10:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, I have irrefutable evidence that Bob Rock is a cockfarmer. A documentary about the making of the Black Album exhibits Rock encouraging Hetfield to end some of his lines with "Womaahnn!!" during the vocal recording of Enter Sandman. Truly shocking stuff.

This belongs on ILM instead, does it not?

Bob Rock (ex-Payla$ guitarist, by the way) was handling the bass detail prior to Metallica hiring that new guy. Whatever. Yawn.

I don't think I'd blame Bob Rock for the slump that Metallica vaulted themselves into. I blame their own avarice.

That is pretty great.

On the flipside, I went to the Metallica website itself and idly looked through their official band history/bio. It's in seven parts, and by the start of the third part Jason Newsted has left the band and they're about to do St. Anger so...I think they got the balance a little off.
