sorry I saw this on an ad at the weekend and decided you all needed to be asked the question. feel free to remove the hilarious irony and answer the question but remember, IT'S EXAM TIME!!!

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

5. the slacker that gets away with it (heh heh)

DG (D_To_The_G), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

haha yes. i think it was an ad for exam handbooks or something.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

come on folks it's exam time, HIT THE GROUND RUNNING, PUSH THE ENVELOPE, BUCK YOURSELF UP, GET IT TOGETHER, KNUCKLE DOWN, SHAKE YOURSELF.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

gulp!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i forgot pull up your socks.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I forgot, I get my results today. 64 (B+), 30 (F) and 29(F). F's are for not doing the coursework at all. If the marks are overall percentages, that's 30/50=60% in the first F exam and 29/70 = 41% for the second, which is bonkers. I bet it's because I wrote overly long pedantic technical answers that answered the question properly, instead of writing the thing they wanted to hear. Ah well. I have no idea what the system for retakes is, or even who to ask about it.

Graham (graham), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I failed an assignment today, I got 35 and it said "-10 for forgetting to label your minidisc, you may resubmit with the max possible resubmission mark being 49". So I went into his office and asked could I resubmit my minidisc with a label on it and get 45 instead. he laughed a bit and then said "i don't see why not".

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Remember that every answer is "Toxteth O'Grady." (More seriously, best of luck!)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 14 April 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Me and exams: I'd do one or two hours revision (unless I felt really confident in which case I wouldn't bother - I only did this on a few a degree level). I'd zip through the exam in very fast time and be top of the class. Best performance at degree level: no revision, a three hour exam in 45 minutes, 99%.

Sorry.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 14 April 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I much prefer exams to course work - they're over quickly. Two days revision, three hours in the exam, straight down the pub. Essays, however, require about one or two weeks research, hours trying to find just the right word, then more hours rereading the shit you've just written. Of course, I have no exams this semester, just a dissertation and three 2500 word essays. Which is why I'm arsing about on ILX, obviously.

Madeleine (Madeleine), Monday, 14 April 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm supposed to be writing an E-Commerce essay right now but fuck, who cares about E-Commerce? Ok, maybe some ppl do. But I don't.

ali (ali), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

nine years pass...

man i get soooo nervous during finals, wrote my first one today and just blanked on a really simple theorem that i totally knew on the second question. think i'm ok for this one the answers worked out and either way i had done well enough on the midterms that i don't think my grade will suffer, but fuck like, doesn't seem like there's anything i can do about it, just this debilitating anxiety. it's happened so many times always the same routine: feelin really confident all semester, start studying but closer and closer i get to the day of the exam the more garbled my thoughts are, have restless sleep and the get to the actual exam and just panic at the first slightest uncertainty and then just form a clear thought to save my life. like this algebra exam tuesday, i've been killing the class all semester but i just know i'm going to fuck it up, i can already feel it

i had a dream last weekend that i went to take my ancient rome final and it was all questions about dinosaurs. like, a diagram of an anklyosaurus with blank arrows pointing to different parts of it and then a question about how its physical characteristics enabled it to survive in the hostile environment of blah blah blah. the dream was mostly just images of this blank anklyosaurus diagram alternated w images of my professor's serious and expectant face.

but i had the exam on wednesday and the only anklyosaurus-style question (which i did not have to answer) was about how much "damage to the republic" had been done by a guy i could remember nothing about except that he'd dressed up like a "lute-girl" so that he could get into a ladies-only religious event emceed by julius caesar's wife. (his subterfuge was detected.) i think i aced it. the point is that if i can fill twenty blue-book pages about this soap opera bullshit you don't have to listen to yr brain when it pretends it doesn't know math for attention. i'd say good luck but likely unnecessary.

pro tip: never date around finals

why do people over the age of 22 subject themselves to this

乒乓, Monday, 17 December 2012 20:45 (twelve years ago)

so i got a B- in that class, so many regrets. would've gotten a B+ if i had not fucked up the easiest question (showing Z[sqrt5] is not a unique factorization ring) through sheer thoughtless arrogance and an A if i had looked at the solutions to the second assignment (2 questions from which were on the exam)
