Debonairize!

I think what my life is missing is some suavity. I want to be more urbane, jaunty. I want to know how not to embarrass myself whilst still going out on a limb. I want to speak less, but that which I do utter will have bounce, and pith. I want to make people giggle, whilst only cracking a smile myself.

Please give me tips as to how I might debonairize my life.

Linen pants.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 14 April 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I knew how to do this. I think good start would be having really suave shoes. And a handbag that didnt resemble a sack.

isadora (isadora), Monday, 14 April 2003 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Start winking.

slutsky (slutsky), Monday, 14 April 2003 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Act as if none of this is actually going on.

Slicked back hair.

Allow people to address you IRL as "Amateurist."

felicity (felicity), Monday, 14 April 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Note to self:

1. Improve posture
2. Lose two stone
3. Stop fidgeting
4. Start smoking again

2 is probably less necessary than you think. 1 and 3 (and 4) are essential. cultivate a knowing half-smile. wave your hands about airily when talking

Walk with a diamond studded cane. And a panther.

Learn how to not hate fun.

hstencil, Monday, 14 April 2003 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

What if fun hates you?

There is a resemblance!

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I like the latter gentleman's version of suave best, but anyone truly suave would not extend their arms in that fashion, unless they were in the middle of an Astaire-like tap routine.

I'm not sure how this fun-hating reputation developed.

(That's Grumpy playing the piano. We are misunderstood.)

Amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I just ate a quart of Persian ice cream (ingredients = rosewater, starch, sugar). Surely this is not the way to lose 2 stone!

Seriously tho' how do I turn a weakness into an attribute, like not ever being able to say anything intelligent?

Amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

play it up. turn it into an affectation

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Say nothing, it will make you "mysterious".

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Or if you do say anything say it in a slightly mad and enigmatic way, like Ezra Pound.

C J (C J), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 03:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I just ate a quart of Persian ice cream

So how does it taste?

jm (jtm), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 03:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Is there some Persian food-Pesach connection I'm missing?

I do not recommend the slicked-hair thing, but what would I know from debonair. Shoes are key, though.

Surely you're not referring to what you write on this board.
