I'm trying to set up a website for a friend, I bought the domain name from registe.com but when I got round to setting up the site I found out that they plaster your site with a big advert for themselves at the bottom of the page, which is a bit rich, 'cause I did give them 35 bucks. Does anyone know how I can go about setting up an ad-free site via the domain name that I now own?

You need to take the domain to another registrar. It should have cost you $10 max to register a domain.

Just find where you want to host the site and request that they get the domain transferred over to them. Ask here for some hosting recommendations.

I registered my or my parents' website, can't remember, but I agree with Ed.

I have somewhere to host the site (my ISP) and I redirected the domain name to the hosting site, but I still get this big banner ad at the bottom of the page. How do I take the domain to another registrar?

123reg.com / .co.uk is good for domain names - free transers, re-direction etc. - and no ads

You might be able to get your isp to transfer the domain name.
