OP4- Poe's short stories

How come he's only known as this macabre horror stories writer? Sure that's a big part of his work, but he was so much more interesting than just that! Love his sense of humour, love his smarts, love his heart (yes, he had heart.)

* "Ligeia" is just beautiful- I love Poe's musings on memory (one of the things that I really like about Poe- you know how every cheap SF/horror movie/short story/tv show from the 60's/70's had to have all this "philosophical" subtext, which is always a pain and a waste of time cuz you just want to see the cool monsters? Poe is one of the earliest examples of that that I could come up with, except in his case the philosophical stuff is actually superior to the action), and it's just a very powerful love story.

* "The Murders In The Rue Morgue"- Dupin = the most obnoxious detective EVAH, thus also the coolest. All of Poe's detective stories are very underrated

* "The Imp Of The Perverse"- because it's TROO! I hate it when ppl misinterpret (yes, yes, I know, no such thing, indulge me) this as being about either a) man's will to do evil or b) the bad conscience that haunts man after he has done something wrong. Oh, and fuck Alan Moore for revealing the ending before I got a chance to read it.

* "The Masque Of The Red Death"- brrrrr.
