yes, this is a thread where i whinge about something that annoys me...
on holidays a couple of years ago, and one of the travelling party snogs this girl who was really REALLY drunk. not just a quick kiss, he was tongueing her for hours, and her balance was, how shall i put this?, shaky at best.
the lad responsible is a really shy, timid guy. very studious. and he was completely sober when he did it. i found the whole situation rather hilarious. alas, some of the travelling party took a real objection to it. one of my other friends, who's quite a moody guy with a bit of a mean sense of humour, got very moral about the whole thing, and started saying that he was no longer going to speak to the quiet guy, after he had behaved in such a beastly fashion. when i said, "ah, it doesn't matter, it's just a one-off bit of silliness." he got all holier-than-thou, going on about how he was the only one Standing Up For Decency in the group.
ok, i'm not defending the quiet guy who took advantage of the Very Very drunk girl. but it really irritates me when people think that they are being Very Moral and Good when they get on other people's cases about Not Being Moral and Good. Especially when the guy who was claiming the moral high ground isn't generally anywhere near as Moral as the guy who had made the mistake this time out. What's moral about pointing out when others are not being Moral? Anyone can do that.
i'm well aware that in writing this piece i'm guilty of the same thing i'm complaining about, but whatever. any examples of this sort of thing? Do you disagree?

I used to say I hated people who did things like that until I actually did it myself a couple months ago, after a party. I'm guessing most of us (except Ralph Nader) have done something like it. Sometimes things just sort of happen.
In my case the girl wasn't THAT drunk and afterward she let me know she was okay about it so I didn't feel too badly. I still feel pretty much the way I did before - taking advantage of drunk people is mostly wrong - but I don't feel holier-than-thou about it anymore.

Trust me, Ralph Nader does it. Just take my word.
