apparently these shoes only exist in japan. on a site without an english version. my lust for them disgusts me a little.

so
1) is there some kind of english-language japanese shopping paradise somewhere?

2)if i could get my interwebexploder to read japanese characters properrly, nstead of just producing random garbage, i should be able to find the little 'visa' icon, click on it, and hope they don't just take my money and laugh, right?

3) maybe i'll get friend Tom in japan to buy them for me.

4) i want them so badly that i am willing to test ILE's waning patience for trite, useless threads. i am ashamed.

and the french were of NO help whatsoeever.

does PayPal convert £ and $ to yen yet? i wanted to buy some book-with-DVD titles from Japan but my lack of credit card made it difficult

a lot of japanese on-line sites have a message written -- once you can get your browser to read japanese characters -- that says "gomen nasai demo okuri kokunai dake" -- sorry but shipping only within japan -- so the way you can get them is to fill out the form in japanese & have them sent to someone in japan and have them send along to you. another hassle is that a lot of companies still don't accept credit card, but prefer to have you do the postal order thing -- of course from a japanese post office, this is the most common form of payment, it may be changing a bit now...my thoughts are since they don't have an english site they are not so interested in selling to you...if you like send me the link and i'll see if there's any hope for you;) one thing to note is that all of the non-japanese companies like new balance, adidas, converse, etc. have special made for the japanese market product that they release only in japan. depending on where you live in certain big cities certain stores will offer a few of these shoes, but nothing like the variety in japan. right now, in nyc i think are available a japanese edition of jack purcells in leather. that's all i've seen lately. and finally, this is all very seasonal, so if you think those shoes are gonna be around when you finally make it to japan next fall or something, think again.

Too bad you didn't put this thread up sooner. My roommate just got back from Japan last week (he's Japanese and had to return home for Visa issues). First thing he says when we pick him up from the airport: "I think I have SARS" and he proceeds to cough without covering his mouth.

ok i can't find that tell tale clause saying they don't do out of the country, but there was a chart listing the shipping charge for each part of japan and they didn't offer any non-japanese places...just a few things i learned about these shoes...they are roughly $200 US and are from the '80s. They are only available in sizes 26 and 27. I can't remember how that converts, but hopefully it's not your size anyway and you can stop tormenting yourself. If you want, I would suggest that send an email in simplish English to the email address provided and politely ask them if they are willing to ship out of the county. Most likely it's a no go but it's worth a shot.

oh and they do take visa or mastercard, which probably showed up on your screen, but just in case . . .

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 03:48 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, youre lucky you got placed in chiba rather than some mountaintop village in hokkaido or something. unless you wanted a rural experience...

i can already envision all the issey miyake shopping bags littering my room

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 05:31 (twenty-two years ago)

actually i was in sawara city in chiba prefecture, about 2 hrs from tokyo, i hoped to be placed in tokyo or yokohama but this actually worked out well, the living was cheap, the people were really nice, and i could go to tokyo on weekends...
