Till when can you call your new shirt a new shirt?

when you get asked the "is that a new...?" question for how long can you affirm it's really new? something that isn't new for you anymore, could still be new for someone who hasn't seen it yet. and what if it's second hand? I wonder.

Shoes are new until they're all scuffed and dirty. Although some people have the uncanny ability to keep their shoes clean for inordinate amounts of time (years, even!).
