Moregan Freeman is playing the part of God in this little trifle, out this summer. Not a bad choice, sez me. But who would make an even better choice for God? Who's your favorite previous movie God?

I thought Cecil B. DeMille did the voice of God in Ten Commandments, but according to IMDB it was Delos Jewkes, and Donald Hayne doing the voice of the Pillar of Fire. So, them.

Though it doesn't count on a movie thread, the South Park conception of God as some kind of hideous hippo-rat is genius.

Emma Thompson would be great, and I hear she was the first choice for the part in Dogma that Alanis eventually got. Emma did play an angel in the tv mini-series of Angels in America.

My ultimate fantasy God actor? Hm... Willie Nelson? He could explain that he really does want us to use the marijuana plant.

I think using Alanis worked mainly because of the contrast between her and Alan Rickman, almost as disheveled as in Rasputin, as the disappointingly-not-a-Transformer Metatron.

Marianne Faithfull in Absolutely Fabulous (ok not a movie, but still...)
Groucho Marx in Skidoo
Robert Mitchum in Les Sept peches capitaux

I recall seeing a movie once in which E.G. Marshall played God... Forget what it was, but I remember it was kinda freaky because Marshall was also the scary voice on CBS Radio Mystery Theater (this was in the early 70s)
