chaki (chaki), Monday, 21 April 2003 04:33 (twenty-two years ago)

oh my god. the magazine = SO FUNNY IT HURTS

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 21 April 2003 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

it used to be funny but now its all artsy

chaki (chaki), Monday, 21 April 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

The Band? I have the CD of "Helsinki Rock City". It's hilarious.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

"Crushing You with Style", Giant Robot's breakthrough record, is fun party music. "Superweekend", their new LP, sounds cold and laconic in comparison. Trip hoppers might enjoy it, but don't expect anything like "Helsinki Rock City".

seven months pass...
on friday, GR opened shop on haight/shrader in SF (in the spot where FTC used to be).

I went in yesterday afternoon, it was really a nice breath of fresh air for the upper haight... it represented everything right that is wrong about upper fillmore. it's a step up from the LA shop (which is a few blocks south of the Nuart i think).

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 1 December 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait! That opened on Friday? Weird. We walked by there on Saturday and did a doubletake as we didn't know there was a store there. Strange. Didn't go in though.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Monday, 1 December 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

wtf?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 1 December 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I love GR. But its reviews are really, really badly written.

the store as you walk in:

t-shirts and plushes on the left wall
art on the back wall
books in the middle
toys/candy/accessories on right wall
counter in the front right
magazines next to the counter/window

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

That's on the end of Haight nearest the park, aye?

We had meant to go back but got tired and instead went home.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

yes.

well, there's one in LA ya know?

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

there's two in LA. yeah.

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, the 2 across the street from each other, whatev.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 1 December 2003 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, i didn't even know this opened

how does it compare to the kid robot store?

jack, Tuesday, 2 December 2003 01:52 (twenty-two years ago)

less focus on action figures (although about the same amount of attention to plushes), more focus on art/books/magazines/t-shirts/accessories.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 02:13 (twenty-two years ago)

How does it compare to Probot?

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 02:17 (twenty-two years ago)

better, almost as good as everlong.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 02:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Are kozyndan in Probot? They should be! I would buy that!

Dean Gulberry (deangulberry), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 02:25 (twenty-two years ago)

GR has a poster version of that daedelus cover they (kozyndan) did... it really hits close to home.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Packrat nostalgia.

I am ashamed by my performance in this thread.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 8 April 2004 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, shit-- Giant Robot the store in LA really was connected to the magazine? Guess I should've stopped in after all.
