have you ever had an experience of this nature?

weird dreams pertaining to/hinting at experiences of this sort?

if so, theories on what the fuck this is all about?

Alien abduction never works out because they eventually learn a little english and run away

"Alien abductions" have been proved to be false memories created by confabulation w/ a "hypnotherapist". Depending on which one you go to, you will end up getting false memories of child abuse, ritual satanic child abuse, alien abduction, memories of past lives, multiple personalities, etc etc. Its all different flavours of the same thing.

Also many such reports have been blamed on "sleep paralysis", a disorder involving not coming out of the dream state completely. You tend to wake up panicked and hallucinating, often completely paralyzed. I do suffer from that, and it is certainly capable of inspiring such reports.

I've known a couple of people who claim to have taken away by the grays and all. Unfortunately they proved themselves to be pathological liars on other points, so I had to take their claims with a grain of salt...on top of the gallons I was already using.

some of the accounts i've read cannot be explained merely by false memory syndrome.

i asked because i've had weird dreams with pretty freaky alien content. at least a couple of them seem to be related to sleep paralysis phenomena...but still, where does this imagery originate from? i know popular culture has been filled with it, and accounts for it being on our minds, but it doesn't account for its origin...

as i said, some of these dreams were very very freaky, even bearing in mind the normally bizarre content of dreams

one of my former work colleagues claims to have been abducted (along with his brothers)...but i promised myself i wouldn't go into detail on ilx.

why? break the promise. if you do, i promise to go into more boring detail about the freaky-ass ufo/alien themed dreams(?) i've had

The origins of the alien abduction stories can be traced back to three people: Betty & Barney Hill, and Budd Hopkins. In the 60s, the Hills basically invented the "classic" alien abduction story: They had weird dreams, "missing time", went through hypnosis and recovered memories of small humanoid aliens poking them w/ instruments. Later, Budd Hopkins was inspired by their story and started recovering people's abduction memories and wrote some popular books about it. After that its just started to grow.

Pre 20th century, people would have been talking about being visited by fairies, demons, angels, etc. There might definitely be some sort of deeper psychological source for it - "sleep paralysis" or whatnot - but no basis in physical reality for any of it.

Still, those greys are pretty creepy looking aliens.

check out this link for a spooky picture. there's other interesting articles to be found on the brotherblue thing which deal with the history and phenomenology of abductions and all that stuff.

i have a friend who says he got abducted by aliens while he was walking down the street in salt lake city, with a friend. they were both in their 20s, and they both have the same memories of the whole experience. so they weren't asleep and no psychologist planted the story. they remembered it right afterward. and i've known this guy for a long time, he doesn't lie or make things up, and he isn't a nutty new age person... i'm really really skeptical about these sorts of things, but his story is one of the only "supernatural" stories that i DO believe, because i can't find any holes in it, and i really trust him...

art bell/george nori voice: "wow. (pause) that is really (pause) something. i tell you, there are really some wild stories out there"

seriously, that sounds very fucked-up. do you have more details? like, was it daytime/nightime? what were the aliens like? what took place during the incident?

Dallas Yertle (Dallas Yertle), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm, SLC...are you certain they weren't just describing being accosted by mormon missionaries?

Dallas Yertle (Dallas Yertle), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't remember many details... i heard the story a while ago... i'll try to ask him again. mormon missionaries are a definite possibility!
