School options

As a few of you already know, I didn't get into UC Irvine after all because more people accepted enrollment, so that no one on the waitlist (e.g. me) will be admitted. So, I'm stuck without a program at least for the fall (am/was aiming for PhD in English) -- and as far as I can see, if I'm to stay on this same course, to see if UMich, Virginia and Cornell will do spring admits (these are other schools that might fit me).

Failing that, going back to undergrad in a completely different field (nutritional sciences, say) is one option, the law school is another.

Someone school me please (on other options, viability thereof, etc.)

LAW SCHOOL IS A VERY VERY POOR FALLBACK POSITION.

THAT REALLY REALLY SUCKS ABOUT IRVINE! (it seems that it's necessary to say something in caps lock on this thread)

You technically don't have to go back to undergrad since you already have your degree. With many grad programs, you can talk them into being accepted with the understanding that you'll take the prereqs at the beginning. That way you're not an official undergrad, and you're already in the grad program. You can work out something along those lines, anyway. My sister is doing so now, going from advanced chem degrees to a MS program in CS.

Law school...give it lotsa thought to see if it might be a good fit. I have two friends who figured out that they despised the entire profession after having graduated and passed the bar. Years later, they're still agonizing over the loans.

IS THIS THE CAPS THREAD?

Why not try a european university to do a Phd? or other postgrad at. It'll be cheaper.
