I'm trying to keep up with it late-night style on digital Fox cable here in the US; it's amazingly great, super-important to the people there, thrillingly corrupt and anarchic, etc. I wish I knew more though.

thrillingly corrupt and anarchic

of course this appears to have no effect on Brazil's relationship with FIFA, or so it would seem

I used to watch it about ten years ago on some Sky channel. As I recall it was dead passionate, full of people trying mentalistly beautiful things, and occasionally they'd all stop and have a fite too which was ACE.

My fave thing about Brazilian league football is when someone gets sent off and loads of reporters bring their microphones onto the pitch to interview the guilty man. At its highest level Brazilian football is a thing of beauty and intelligence, indeed.

Jesus, a plane carrying the Chapecoense squad has crashed in Colombia.

There are some survivors but it sounds horrific.

I've always thought this but, looking at scorers and reports from Europa League games, it's like every team in Europe, no matter how obscure, has at least one not very good Brazilian playing for them. Aberdeen are playing Apollon Limassol in Cyprus...

1min

Jander does well to make room for himself 25 yards from the Dons goal, but the big defender shanks his drive wide - not typical Brazilian quality!

Apollon have three in all in their starting line-up. They might be great though.

I’m going to be in São Paulo for a few days in August, probably staying next to the Palmeiras stadium. Has anyone seen any domestic league matches live? Are they relatively chilled or to be avoided?

Just saw the Nossa Chape documentary -- very well done I thought, not perfect perhaps but I appreciated how it wove clear continuing threads of questions, trauma, irresolvable loss etc into a 'rising from adversity' framework. Given it was the same team that did The Two Escobars, I'm not surprised, and even if a couple of points were left a little hanging until a concluding note or two, it was good to bring them up nonetheless.
