Would this have pissed you off?

OK, I am posting this question because I wanted to see who ILE would side with in this situation.

My boyfriend and I are outside doing slight yardwork and basically playing in the yard this weekend. I spot a squirrel tail on the ground. I pick it up and toss it at him. He dodges it, tells me to stop. I pick it up again and throw it. It hits him in the face (when I say hit, I mean makes contact, it was pretty light and didn't have proper surface area for catching air). He gets extremely pissed off at me and leaves the house for 3 hours.

OK, I understand that this is not RIGHT, yet it is very FUNNY (at least I thought). He disagrees and lectured me about it for an hour. and is still pissed about why I don't understand how this means I don't respect him because I "threw a dead animal part in his face." Plus he's vegan.

My views: We don't know for sure that the animal was dead. So it was just part of an animal. He's vegan because he doesn't support that whole industry not because of him being a huge animal lover. Plus, I didn't harm the animal in any way. He even made me call my parents to ask them if they thought it was wrong. My dad just said "Why didn't he throw it back at you?" Plus the tail didn't look or smell bad.

Granted I do harass him terribly and maybe he just finally broke. We never fight though and he usually can only stay mad at me for 5 seconds before I find some way of getting him to laugh.

So, questions, comments, damnation?

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Throwing animal parts at a vegan = very stupid unless you really want to piss them off. It was a shitty thing to do.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think you thought "there's an animal part! I can throw it at for fun--------------plus he's a vegan!! even better....."

but it's a bit disgusting.

once might have been funnily wrong. but twice is more just wrongy than funny.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

it would have pissed me off though I probably wouldn't have left the house for three hours over it. just apologize to your boyfriend and don' try to lessen 'the offense' by noting it's not like YOU cut the squirrels tail off, etc.

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

that said people have done worse to their significant others

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

First time, no. Second time, yes. And it's not that funny, really. Apologize sincerely, don't try to get him to laugh it off.

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Dead animal parts can carry some pretty nasty germs, Carey. I would have been hella pissed off at you for that alone.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

ack! I wouldn't even pick up a squirrel tail much less throw it at someone. It's probably a safe assumption that the squirrel who was seperated from his tail is dead. They aren't lizards.

(oh, and after he said stop the first time you should've stopped.)

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Granted I do harass him terribly and maybe he just finally broke.

What other dead animal parts do you regularly use?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, don't do something if somebody asks you nicely to stop. Doesn't matter if they're vegan or not, that's just rude.

hstencil, Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

he should have made a hat out of it.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, funny would have been if you stuffed it down his pants while in line at the supermarket in front of everybody and the security cameras and then yelled 'RUN' and took off out the door.

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, and if you apologize, then he should get over it. Making you call your parents about this is DUD.

hstencil, Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I apologized and I know now not to throw a tail at someone. For some reason I thought of a tail as just fur on a stick and not an animal part.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Millar's suggestion is very funny. Don't beat yourself up over this too much Carey.

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Believe me I thought about trying to stick it down his pants, but thought that would be rude. This was completely spontaneous and I totally did not even think about him being vegan.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok we'll just let this thread sink to the very bottom of the posts now. I've learned my lesson. I just have a warped sense of what's funny and what's wrong. Just like I have this plan of one day when I have to go to another thesis defense party, I want to somehow have a small child ( I wish babies were more durable) on hand to wrap up in a box (with air holes of course) and give to the person who is celebrating. And after the gifts of bookends and quippy t-shirts when they open it up the child will yell "Mommy (or Daddy!) and hug the recipient. This is my dream.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

there are worse things...

(And I have a 5 year old you could borrow, but he's sort of heavy and wouldn't fit into a small box)

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

squirrel nutkin is based on a real live squirrel beatrix potter knew w/o a complete tail

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

this wd not have pissed me off

my sister (= vegetarian) wd totally have done this to me

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess the thing is this wouldn't have pissed me off either.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

its not like you fed it to him! total overreaction.

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the key here is simply that you did it a second time when he said stop. Esp if as you say you tend to tease/hassle him a lot. Some people hate this, even if they say nothing. I don't think you should feel too bad about it, but yeah maybe explain it to him, apologise... and give him a good shag or something ;D

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I am SO TEMPTED to advise that you find the tail and put it in his sock drawer, but I'm evil like that.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm pretty sure I could unpack something dirty from "finding tail in the sock drawer," but I've had my fun elsethread.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Carey sounds fun. It still would have pissed me off, for sure, but I would have gotten over it.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 02:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey there's a squirrel around here without a tail. The effect is unsettling. He/she looks like a VW.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 04:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Squirrel are pretty goddamn adorable

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan Perry and Chris V. OTM, the rest of you are mentalists. On the other hand, you are now receiving advice from someone who beat the shit out of a guy for knocking over a Christmas tree so take as you will. I think it's pretty hilarious. Though I wouldn't have done it cos squirrels freak me.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 05:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's kinda minging, to be honest, but as someone who has ALWAYS wanted to slap someone in the face with a wet fish, I'm not quite sure why. Dead squirrel bits = dud.

I think a public enquiry is in order to ascertain why said squirrel lost a tail in the first place, and what the tail was doing in your back garden.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 07:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Boyfriend's major overreaction absolves you of all blame for your minor shittiness.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 07:35 (twenty-two years ago)

bad gurl.

thuddd (thuddd), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

It really pisses me off when I ask people not to do things to me, and they keep doing it just to annoy me. I probably would have reacted the same way. Also, if you harass him all the time with other shit along similiar lines, then I suggest you give it a rest before you cost yourself a relationship - his leaving the house for 3 hours is obviously a big glaring hint that your behaviour towards him is unacceptable in some ways. Try and work it out.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i am a vegetarian, and i hate to say, it would have pissed me off too. if my SO's excuse was that they forgot i was vege, i would still be pissed off.

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

it wouldn't have pissed me off. I would have thrown it back.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I know what it's like to do something & have no idea why u did it, but whether or not in hindsight this is funny i think it's wrong. I am a vegetarian, but regardless of this, I would not like my s/o or anyone else for that matter to hurl part of a dead animal in my face. Then do it again! No, not good at all. Overreaction tho def!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Do squirrel tails just fall off? That's weird! I wouldn't be that pissed off, but would probably be mortally worried that I was gonna get rabies or something like that, as I'm a terrible hypochondriac.

My thoughts in this affair are with the poor squirrel who has lost it's tail, it's Beatrix Potter-esque.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Hindsight's 20/20, I guess. You probaly didn't have an accurate idea of how pissed off he'd be, and I'm guessing you wouldn't have done it knowing what his reaction would be. I would've told him that. For me, something is no longer funny once someone I care about is upset by it--seems selfish. Not a big deal though and definitely doesn't warrant a M&P phone call. I'd just be happy that I had a girl who's that playful.

buttch (Oops), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I personally would have stuck it down my pants and pretended it was my penis. but Im 28 going on 8 so....

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

squirrels' tails are bitten off by put-upon moderator owls

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I forgot to add the simulated masturbation.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Why do all the good men have to be married?

Hey, I'm not marri---oh, 'good' men. Damn! I thought it was 'god' men.

buttch (Oops), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

But squirrel tails are so soft and fluffy! How could anyone be so mad at that?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 24 April 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends when and how it left the squirrel, I suppose...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 24 April 2003 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I found an entire squirrel skeleton under my back porch this weekend. Unfortunately/fortunately (?) I didn't take the opportunity throw it at my special ladyfriend.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 24 April 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

If I was yr boyfriend, I would have punched you in the breasts.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Thursday, 24 April 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw a dead squirrel last week. It was sad.

If he could tell it was a squirrel's tail coming at him and that was why he dodged, then I can see him being angry at you doing it again - because he's grossed out at animal parts. On the other hand, if he just had a problem with you throwing anything at him in a playful way then he sounds like he was grumpy and a bit miserable about it.

I threw a towel in the general direction of one of my boyfriends once and it started a huge fight which ended in me jumping out of slowly moving car! Scary!

marianna, Thursday, 24 April 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually told him about this thread and he was pleased that people were siding with him because all people that I've asked to their faces start laughing and tell him that he overreacted. I mean, really, he would have laughed if I had done it to any other person. I actually have no fear of him breaking up with me which I guess is why I do stuff like that because I have any easy target. Every week he has to give me a new list of things not to do to him. Pantsing, biting, probing, throwing squirrel bits. I'm actually usually not like this, but I've been living in the worst college town for 2 years waiting for him to finish a post doc and I get really hyperactive and spazzy since I am never stimulated.

BTW the tail was dry. I wouldn't have touched it if it was wet, I have a fear of moist things.

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 24 April 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Pantsing? Biting? Probing? What a lucky man this Franz is!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 24 April 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Huh, does "number three" equal to "baby" in your language?

And even though holding that pig heart made me feel kinda sick, it was worth it FOR THE SAKE OF ART!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 9 June 2006 08:35 (nineteen years ago)

yeah but a pig died because of it. and it didn't even feed anybody.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 9 June 2006 08:37 (nineteen years ago)

Hold on, I didn't go out and tear the heart out of a living pig, I bought it at a grocery store. I think the rest of it fed somebody.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 9 June 2006 08:44 (nineteen years ago)

And this is the only time in the last ten years I've bought a meat product, so I think I'm excused.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 9 June 2006 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

That's how Nazi Germany started.

not_mc (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 9 June 2006 09:03 (nineteen years ago)

most people who eat meat don't slaughter the animals themselves

ken c (ken c), Friday, 9 June 2006 09:04 (nineteen years ago)

No, I was just answering your comment that it didn't feed anyone.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 9 June 2006 09:06 (nineteen years ago)

omfg, i can't express how much i'd want to kick someone's ass if they threw dead animal parts in my face. the fact that you have to ask "would this have pissed you off?" indicates that you are probably some kind of sociopath and should be thrown down a well.

yeah thank god for meatatarians

xpost kicking donkeys is cruel too.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 9 June 2006 09:31 (nineteen years ago)

I'd be pissed off if someone found a dead animal and didn't even attempt to throw it at me, tbh. What a waste of potential hilarity!

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Friday, 9 June 2006 10:18 (nineteen years ago)

I don't get it... The heart looks the same in both pics.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 9 June 2006 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

No, I was just answering your comment that it didn't feed anyone.

But if you hadn't bought the heart, somebody else would have, and then it would have fed somebody. So you still did the pig a disservice, regardless of whether the rest of its body got eaten or not.

I mean, I'm fine with the idea of people eating me after I die, it'd actually be my preferred means of body disposal...it's actually useful (I have nutritional value!), and environmentally non-destructive, which can't really be said of either burial or cremation. But the idea of somebody fannying around making shitty high school "art" with my organs is really offensive. So if I was the pig, I'd hate you now Tuomas.

JimD (JimD), Friday, 9 June 2006 12:00 (nineteen years ago)

Well, of course buying it was against my ethics. I don't claim to be a perfect person. However, if I've bought one meat product in ten years, I'd still say it's small compared to people who buy them every day.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 9 June 2006 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

And the "art" comment was supposed to be ironic. We were teens and wanted to offend people... Who hasn't?

Really, what you want is a nice tender baby.
