SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree. especially late at night.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

ugh
it tastes like paracetemol

robin (robin), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

what is paracetemol? I know it only from the line "on the elevator... you shit paracetemol " from suede

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 00:25 (twenty-two years ago)

No mixer nothing. Soda, and plenty of it. Plus a big thick wedge of orange. It helps if you're in the slaughtered lamb at the time.

Matt (Matt), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

paracetamol = acetaminophen

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 02:50 (twenty-two years ago)

thank you sir

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 03:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Good things to do with campari

With Ice and soda water

Spriss: White wine or prosecco, ice, campari and soda water. (the national drink of the veneto)

Negroni: Gin, Campari, Vermouth, Soda Water.

Aperitivo Florian: Gin, Dry Vermouth, Campari, Dash orange liquer, orange peel

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 05:39 (twenty-two years ago)

campari = pelligrino bitter with alcohol. ed's right - i enjoy a negroni in the summertime.

j.a.e., Wednesday, 23 April 2003 06:18 (twenty-two years ago)

paracetamol = acetaminophen

Arent generic drug names fairly universal? I'm very very suprised to hear "what is paracetamol" and I've not heard it called acetaminophen before. I mean everyone has tylenol/panadol/etc dont they?

Or have I missed something here... wouldn't suprise me!

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 06:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Paracetamol is a term not used in the US but Acetaminophen is

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 06:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Campari also complements the decor in our flat.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Campari and orange juice. Yeah.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

mmmn, a campari with white wine and soda at about 4.30pm, on the beach on Lido, after a hard day sunbathing, swimming and reading, with olives. More than made up for the fact that I'd got heat rash cos it was stinking hot.

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 07:32 (twenty-two years ago)

ah and those Campari Soda 6-packs that come in those nifty trinagular bottles.. they're great!

Fabrice (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 07:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"Campari Soda 6-packs" I'm unaware of these... yum!

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 07:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Absolutely essential summertime drinking. They're a little hard to come by in the UK but some Italian shops have them.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 07:55 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah I would say that most Italian shops have them. They're pretty easy to find in supermarkets on the continent tho'
only dud is that the bottles are definitely too small (when poured they only fill like half of a normal glass)

Fabrice (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

They were only like 2000 lire a pop in the bar down the road when I livedin Italy. At that price I can afford 2.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm with Ed and Vicky on this. I should be in Lido in July, Vic, so I'll have one for you :)

I didn't drink them when I was in Italy, though. When wine was 50p a litre, who needed anything else? (answer: I did, desperately, I just didn't know it. Tavernello, ugh.)

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 08:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Freud do the best Negroni in London. Everyone should drop in and have a couple.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

eleven months pass...
Paracetemol is sick for pain relief. I use dymadon.

michael paracetemol, Monday, 19 April 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

campari shaken with vodka and grapefruit juice is delicious.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Aha it's time to take out the Campari Soda 6-packs !!

Baaderoni (Fabfunk), Monday, 19 April 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Campari is disgusting. but then i have very childish tastes.

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Monday, 19 April 2004 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Campari taste a little bit like burnt rubber smells.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 19 April 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I always like the idea of Campari more than the reality.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 19 April 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

it's like pernod in that respect. and coffee.

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Monday, 19 April 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

It's very pretty, and quite refreshing with soda and a slice. But should only really be drunk when it co-ordinates with one's outfit. Not when it co-ordinates with one's sunburnt nose.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 19 April 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember ordering Campari and soda in Venice because it seemed appropriate and old-world glam, but then I remembered I didn't really like it much.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 19 April 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i feel that way about manhattans.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 19 April 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Lauren OTM
For a long time I ordered cocktails for the retro glamour they evoked, now I'm just sticking to Side-cars

Baaderoni (Fabfunk), Monday, 19 April 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I can sort of see the burnt-rubber thing, though I love Campari. But manhattans? What could be more delicious? Where have you been drinking them?

Paul Eater (eater), Monday, 19 April 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i love manhattans - basically its the only mixed drink i like. but now that its getting warmer, its time for the mint juleps!!

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 19 April 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

ive been meaning to go to that fancy bar at that fancy hotel (the st. regis maybe?) because i hear they make the best manhattans

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 19 April 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

the king cole bar is at the st.regis - is that the one that you're thinking of? better yet, let's just go to pete's candy store and drink juleps until we fall down. possibly my all-time favorite cocktail.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 19 April 2004 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

as soon as possible, lets go. i love mint juleps.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 19 April 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

(i live near Pete's)

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 19 April 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

julep fap! julep fap!

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 19 April 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I love mint juleps. I wish I lived in New York.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 19 April 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember ordering Campari and soda in Venice because it seemed appropriate and old-world glam, but then I remembered I didn't really like it much.

They must have been wondering why you didn't want wine in that.

Ed (dali), Monday, 19 April 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Freud FAP?

Ed (dali), Monday, 19 April 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Manhattans rock the parti.

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Monday, 19 April 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

<em>julep fap! julep fap! </em>

For real?!~

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Monday, 19 April 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Dang! I keep forgetting not to use that HTML stuff anymore!

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Monday, 19 April 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

hasn't anyone noticed that campari tastes exactly like bile?

mandee, Monday, 19 April 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I always imagine it to be the "Water of Life" from Dune.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 19 April 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm totally serious. i'm sure that phil is serious. let's get it together!

xpost

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 19 April 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Camparis should only be drunk whilst wearing linen suits. Me, I am a mojito girl. Barbados rum, brown sugar, crushed ice, muddled mint leaves. None of yer Barcadi flim flammery.

badger Kitten (badger Kitten), Monday, 19 April 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

oh ho ho i am serious! lets have a mint julep fap to celebrate hstencil's new job!

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 19 April 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

or whenever really, im not fussy.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 19 April 2004 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Camparis should only be drunk whilst wearing clothing you don't mind getting slightly reddish vomit on.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 19 April 2004 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

I tend to love any bitter liquor, especially when mixed with a sweet liquor, like Cointreau (more Campari than Cointreau, please). Other bitter liquors I should know about?

libcrypt, Friday, 13 July 2007 02:56 (eighteen years ago)

NO BARTENDER I've ever asked knows what a sidecar is. "What's in that?" Oh crap, now I have to tell them I don't know what's in one but I saw the recipe in a cocktail book once and it looked good & yummy but fuck if I remember anything, and oh I liked the name...too... "Oh, no worries bartender, I'll just have a ginger ale w/whiskey."

No sloe gin fizzes either. And last time John ordered Chivas on the rocks, he got Sauza tequila. Stupid crappy bars.

Abbott, Friday, 13 July 2007 04:12 (eighteen years ago)

Every bar in SF knows what a sidecar is.

libcrypt, Friday, 13 July 2007 04:13 (eighteen years ago)

Every Abbott is within 100 miles of bars that are only crappy and know how to mix four kinds of well boozes with coke, tonic, or (if you're in an especially nice one) ginger ale. And they'll usually open your budweiswer for you and sometimes give you fresh glasses, too, if you ask a couple times.

Which is why I drink at home.

Abbott, Friday, 13 July 2007 04:22 (eighteen years ago)

You should move to SF. I'll sponsor you.

libcrypt, Friday, 13 July 2007 04:45 (eighteen years ago)

Is Campari served in skanky old public houses or only in classy establishments?

Hard like armour, Friday, 13 July 2007 05:07 (eighteen years ago)

In the US, both but only on the coasts.

libcrypt, Friday, 13 July 2007 05:35 (eighteen years ago)

In Aust? I am looking for a new drink to try tonight.

Hard like armour, Friday, 13 July 2007 05:35 (eighteen years ago)

What the fuck is Campari? Pics please.

Bimble, Friday, 13 July 2007 05:37 (eighteen years ago)

I generally have decent luck asking barkeeps what they like to pour. Ask for a drink with campari and see what you get.

libcrypt, Friday, 13 July 2007 05:37 (eighteen years ago)

Campari is a red liquor. It's quite bitter, and extremely delicious.

libcrypt, Friday, 13 July 2007 05:39 (eighteen years ago)

The staff type of pub I am going to tonight will probably give me a look of "whatthafuk?"

Hard like armour, Friday, 13 July 2007 05:40 (eighteen years ago)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/35/Campari_modified.jpg

libcrypt, Friday, 13 July 2007 05:41 (eighteen years ago)

It's quite bitter

like Benedictine? That stuff tastes like grass clippings. So I would find it quite different to Malibu & pineapple then?

Hard like armour, Friday, 13 July 2007 05:42 (eighteen years ago)

I haven't had either, but I think that if you find bitter tastes appealing, you may like campari.

libcrypt, Friday, 13 July 2007 05:47 (eighteen years ago)

Bitter tastes...so are you supposed to mix it with anything? What would happen if you mixed it with soda water?

Bimble, Friday, 13 July 2007 06:02 (eighteen years ago)

How about cranberry juice?

Bimble, Friday, 13 July 2007 06:02 (eighteen years ago)

mmm Campari on the rocks....the official drink of Team Zissou.

l, Friday, 13 July 2007 07:22 (eighteen years ago)

i always suspected a chinotto/campari connection, but now it's confirmed

"The chinotto is a small bitter citrus fruit from the chinotto, or "myrtle-leaved orange" tree (Citrus aurantium var. myrtifolia). The tree grows to a height of 3m and can be found in Liguria, Tuscany, Sicily and Calabria regions of Italy. The chinotto is an essential flavor component of most Italian bitter amari digestifs, and of the popular Campari liqueur."

oooft. so bitter. had to force it down

cozen, Thursday, 17 October 2013 18:17 (twelve years ago)

its an acquired taste iirc

just sayin, Thursday, 17 October 2013 18:28 (twelve years ago)

how did you have it? just with soda?

just sayin, Thursday, 17 October 2013 18:29 (twelve years ago)

soda, large wedge of orange

was seriously difficult to finish it. does a negroni take the edge off?

cozen, Thursday, 17 October 2013 19:03 (twelve years ago)

yeah, it has sweet vermouth in it which balances the bitterness.

just sayin, Thursday, 17 October 2013 19:10 (twelve years ago)

if you're not in the mood for the full hit of a negroni you can make a campari americano - a negroni but with soda water in place of gin.

He is "The Developer" and the children view him with a deep susp (c sharp major), Thursday, 17 October 2013 22:39 (twelve years ago)

i find campari often tastes a little too much like marmalade for me these days, though i still drink it on the regular (i'm drinking a campari-soda right now!)

He is "The Developer" and the children view him with a deep susp (c sharp major), Thursday, 17 October 2013 22:40 (twelve years ago)

can't imagine finding it bitter, unless you also find marmalade bitter.

He is "The Developer" and the children view him with a deep susp (c sharp major), Thursday, 17 October 2013 22:41 (twelve years ago)

Well, I mean, it's bitter - it's an amaro! - but it's... sweet-bitter. (one of my housemates once said he found it too sweet and syrupy, like cough medicine, which i didn't really understand)

I keep meaning to branch out into the other amari - amaro ramazotti, say, or that one that's made from artichokes or something.

He is "The Developer" and the children view him with a deep susp (c sharp major), Thursday, 17 October 2013 22:43 (twelve years ago)

i was going to post the video for Jennifer Hudson's "Spotlight" where she bails on her possessive boyfriend and goes to a club where they ONLY SERVE CAMPARI, but the edit on Vevo has significantly fewer shots of red glasses and campari bottles.

that shit is nasty.

da croupier, Thursday, 17 October 2013 23:41 (twelve years ago)

campari g&t

I always buy some of these when I'm in Italy - although I much prefer my Campari with Tonic than with soda water

may give it one more go, with something to take the edge off

Campari and cheap white wine, mixed in equal amounts, with ice.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Monday, 25 November 2013 10:18 (twelve years ago)

I've often wondered if hops are among Campari's secret ingredients; that earthy, tannic, oily bitterness reminds me of US IPAs.
