Local Elections UK 2003

Not the most inspiring subject but I got my polling card today and most intriguing of all ia the fact that I can now vote by Internet, e-kiosk and text message. What pisses me off is that there is no way of spoiling an Electronic ballot and thus registering a non-apathetic abstensiona lthough I'd pretty much decided to vote green this time.

Anywy, does anyone else aprt from me care about this?

I don't see spoiling your paper as particularly less apathetic than (deliberately) not voting, so no. It's an all postal vote in my neck of da woods this time; I have broken the habit of a lifetime (well, 6 years) with my vote. Sob, we're not in 1997 any more Toto.

DOH! Writing that I realised I forgot to post it. *runs home and thence to post box or would if not chained to desk; spots fatal flaw in electoral procedure ie. public such as me too absent-minded to be trusted with things like votes*

I would like a none of the above, or reopen nomintaions box on my ballot paper.

A nice little story from todays guardian diary:

"A setback for the BNP's local election campaign in Medway, where one of its four candidates has been forced to withdraw. One Anthony James Holroyd, candidate for the Peninsula ward, has pulled out, reports the Anti Nazi League website, after his mother Stella discovered his plan, frogmarched him down to the civic centre and made him remove his name from the ballot paper just before the deadline for withdrawal. He's not an embryonic fascist leader, to adapt a line for Stella from The Life of Brian, he's a very naughty boy."

Hahaha! We don't get BNP here cos it's too middle class, though there's generally some swivel-eyed maniac independent. I shall definitely be voting, we've got a Tory local council who have some utterly appalling ideas (inc giving grants to the owners of the poshest houses grants to "restore original design features")

(obviously my housmates and I are petitioning the council telling them that our house originally had a helipad and a deep sea harbour and we want them restored NOW)

Anybody know where I can find a list of my candidates? The Croydon Council website is being about as useful as a fuck in a freezer

I like local elections, 1 green, 2 tories or vice versa is my usual policy. But, I don't think we're having any here.

Should come with your ballot paper or try looking on your local authority website.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

haven't had my ballot paper yet - and as I said above our council website has no info. never mind thanks anyway

j0e (j0e), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't had mine either. I was mortified that I forgot to vote last time. The Liberal Democrats need all the help they can get.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Lib Dems aren't standing here, but they never do. Tories aren't standing, though they have in the past. I will reluctantly vote Labour, because I rarely if ever trust independent candidates.

I just voted by internet. I'd do it again although I was a bit worried that Safari couldn't verify the security certificate.

There aren't local elections in London, they do them at a different time from everyone else. So don't panic mark! And I think that includes Croydon

j0e (j0e), Friday, 25 April 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)
