I like this site, as there is alot of quirky cool stuff to look at, especially the kraftwerk cam (in the Special Things section):

I don't have many other sites I visit as regularly as this one, in fact it's really only Urban75, but the interweb is raided frquently for info on whatever is clogging up my brain at the time.

DG, Saturday, 8 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Let's just say, DJ Martian, that temporary setbacks count for nothing in the grand plan that ensures the Gills' continued glory in the First Division regardless of the aspirations of Certain South Coast Teams. In the meantime, as long as there's a Southampton one division higher than you, your own place in the scheme of things is oh so clear. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 8 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yahoo.com of course. To check my email. Stereo weblog (@ Pitas) to update my indie rock knowledge. Allmusic.com as well. To order a DVD or book I go to Amazon.co.uk. And Kindamuzik.net if I want to cringe (I contribute to this webzine).

The Ducket which I suspect will be of limited interest to ILE readers.

I also use imdb, amg and hotmail on a daily basis.

Ned, Southampton are a sinking ship they will get relegated this season in their new stadium (re: the promoted clubs Fulham, Blackburn - will definately stay up) and Bolton are showing signs of their intent - Therefore 3 established premier clubs could get relegated - Leicester, Southampton and a.n.other.

Then it will be a level playing field - as so many Premier league drop outs find out - when they reach the first - Sheff Wed, Norwich, Coventry, Nottm Forest, Wimbeldon, Barnsley, Crystal Palace etc.

Within a few years Portsmouth - will be once again be the leading club on the south coast in terms of league position.

I await the day when Pompey get promoted to the Premiership.

Yes, Southampton are clearly going down (still no points tut tut tut) but Pompey going up? I know nothing about football but I do know that Pompey are perenially in the first division! (You should be warned that up until July I went to a sixth form in Southampton hence my views here may have been slightly biased...)

Bill, Sunday, 9 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yep Portsmouth are the longest current members of division 1 - since 1988 (Pompey had one season in the top flight under Alan Ball in 1987- 88) we have been in the Division 1/the old Division 2 (in the days before the premier league) The other 23 clubs that make Division 1 have either be promoted or relegated to Division 1 since 1988.

I expect Premiership status to be achieved in the next three to five years, Pompey now have the right manager, some great signings and young players who will come good. It took Ipswich 5 years of steady improvement to get into the Premier, playing a passing style of football with style and working as a team unit.

DJ Martian, Sunday, 9 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Southampton's continual stubborn refusal to get relegated has irritated me more and more in recent years. This is freakish: in October 1998 they achieved a totally undeserved 1-1 draw at Arsenal with a last-minute equaliser, and spent the whole of that season in the bottom three apart from the last two weeks when they somehow fluked their way out as usual: had Arsenal won that match (and they had enough chances to win by at least 4-0) the title would have been theirs and ManYoo would never have been able to boast eternally about "The Real Treble = ACCEPT NO IMITATIONS" (quite apt though when you consider how Liverpool played on Saturday). Defies logic. Coventry accepted their fate last season: I think their southern twins the Saints will this year. Or next. Soon, anyway.

Pompey-Gillingham: yep, a choker for me as well (the Gills being my second team after Crystal Palace) but I have to admit I find Martian's predictions a little over-optimistic. Time will tell, etc. At least everyone in the First Division can laugh at Manchester City right now: just like old times, eh?

Ah: answer the question. This forum, the other one, Urban75, Freaky Trigger, Skykicking (been checking through the archives of late, Tim, and reminded myself just how *much* you have there: would that I were still so prolific), and Guardian Unlimited if there's something I missed in the paper or something I particularly want to research. I also always read James Masterton's chart commentary on Dotmusic, partially because I'm anal about the charts, and partially because he once said that, having disagreed with something I wrote about him, he then threw beer at his screen. Which is some achievement :).

dark sensation

hn, Sunday, 9 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Robin, it's the big fixture next Saturday: Portsmouth Vs Crystal Palace.

Pompey will be looking for revenge after the disaster night back in early May - when Palace played out of their skins after dour Alan Smith got the chop. Since then Pompey have signed a number of players and have had a good start to the season. Should be a good game.

I think I will start a thread for the match next Saturday afternoon!

Also it's great that Southampton have 0 points and they still have not scored!
