Strawberry Shortcake OWNZ THIS THREAD!!!

hstencil, Wednesday, 23 April 2003 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Strawberry Shortcake is gay, and so r u. Everyone knows My Little Pony rules the skool.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

uh oh, stence, have you seen my SS necklace?

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

The new line of Strawberry Shortcake is horrible, and I hate it.

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

My Little Pony, obviously, for elsethread reasons. The best you could get from the Care Bears is using "Care Bear stare" as code for voyeurism, maybe.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

The cartoon STINX. Strawberry Shortcake all hip? What the fuck?

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

RAINBOW BRITE IS THE BEST!!!

For this thread, tho, I'll take the ponies.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

jaymc's Rainbow Brite love comes outta the closet. I suspected as much.

hstencil, Wednesday, 23 April 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh how I used to mock my little sister's love for all things colorful and plush!!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I was Rainbow Brite for Halloween once.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, here's why My Little Pony is better. Because it's cute as fuck, and yet the pony in Ally's pic has this sort of cool detachment. Care Bears are too eager-to-please in their cuteness, like countless other anthropomorphisms (Snuggle Bear, Pillsbury Dough Boy, etc.) Care Bears are all, "HI! WILL YOU BE MY FRIEND??" My Little Pony's all like, "Oh, hey there. What's up?"

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I was Rainbow Brite for Halloween once.

My next-door neighbor was Rainbow Brite for Halloween when we were like five or six. I think I was jealous, in some pre-aware-of-gender-roles way.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

My Little Pony, because you can get living ones:

Nemo (JND), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

care bears, cause they still make me feel creative after all these years.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I saw that dog in Williamsburg, actually. It's Larry Tee's.

hstencil, Wednesday, 23 April 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha, very funny, Martin!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

The breed is called Chinese Crested. Some of them have pinker skin, and they really do look as much like a My Little Pony as any dog has business doing.

Nemo (JND), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Do they listen to W.I.T.?

hstencil, Wednesday, 23 April 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Where do I get one of those things? They look like demons from the beyond. I am in love with them. I would name them after members of Kraftwerk and pet their fancy head hair. Then I would get sick of them and ignore them.

Erik, Thursday, 24 April 2003 07:54 (twenty-two years ago)

GRUMPY BEAR was the best. he was in denial about being twee, which is the twee-est thing ever.

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 24 April 2003 09:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Generic-brand My Little Pony knockoffs were bestest, they had swivelly heads that did a complete Exorcist-stylez 360o. My Little Ponys always had those dumb handbags with their outfits which never fit properly and consequently looked k-lame.

petra jane (petra jane), Thursday, 24 April 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I loathed them both. yuck! But care bears in particular.

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 24 April 2003 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

why is that GI Joe comic subtitled "a real American hero"? do they think GI Joe is, like, an actual historical figure?

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Thursday, 24 April 2003 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

the fact that I, a boy, actually remember WATCHING My Little Pony explains a lot about me.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Thursday, 24 April 2003 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

My Little Pony wins. Care Bears were contemptable even when I was 7. I had a My Little Pony grooming parlour and I loved it.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 24 April 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

All American heroes are fictional.

Those old My Little Pony cartoons were so bad they were compelling. A few years ago, I saw one with my daughter about a seemingly evil, but misunderstood, pig-princess, who was manipulated by her underlings. Nothing made sense, everything kept flip-flopping from one scene, and one shot, to the next, the dialogue was unlistenable, and it was frantic, despite not much really happening in the story.

I tried to find it on YouTube. Alas, no luck.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 1 February 2010 22:01 (fifteen years ago)

one year passes...

The new My Little Pony show, subtitled Friendship is Magic, has developed quite a cult following over the past few months. It was developed by Lauren Faust, who also worked on The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends - the new show is her attempt to make a proper girl's cartoon, that appeals to its core audience instead of patronising it.

Adult male MLP fans have a name for themselves:bronies. They're even namechecked in the latest TV ad:

"The whole enterprise really took off when Kacey met Eike, a "black bunny avatar" with anime hair, allegedly portrayed by a German man. Eike proposed fake Second Life marriage to Kacey, at which point Kacey totally fell in love with him. Not OtakuOfTomobiki, mind you. Just Kacey. Because Kacey was the one playing Second Life. Not OtakuOfTomobiki. Although the real person behind Eike presumably had legitimate feelings for the person he believed to be behind Kacey, OtakuOfTomobiki treated the whirlwind affair like an anime fairy tale about people who are not him. "

Bam! Orgasm explosion in your facehole. (DJP), Thursday, 5 January 2012 23:38 (fourteen years ago)

Third, MLP:FIM is a new version of the show because Lauren Faust, who worked on Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, wanted to make a kids show that wouldn't cause the adults that watch with their children to slam their heads into the wall to make the saccharine, high-pitched, aural trauma go away.

based on the 2 minutes of this that I watched, where two of the ponies were having a bitch fit over cleaning up a park, I don't think they succeeded

Foster's was the bomb tho

Bam! Orgasm explosion in your facehole. (DJP), Thursday, 5 January 2012 23:40 (fourteen years ago)

Foster's >>> MLP

One of my main problems with Bronys is that they don't have good taste. How can they not like Foster's better? PEER PRESSURE

One of my main problems with Bronys is that they don't have good taste. How can they not like Foster's better? PEER PRESSURE

I don't really get this either. I quite like the new MLP show, but there are current shows which are clearly better, e.g. Adventure Time, Regular Show, P&F. But a lot of toon-geeks are treating MLP as one of the greatest cartoon series EVER made, top five material. It seems to me like a lot of them are getting too caught up in the buzz.

Duane Barry, Friday, 6 January 2012 00:48 (fourteen years ago)

I like Foster's better! But MLP is fun too, and if it gets me out of having to watch Dora or Max and Ruby I am more than happy to watch MLP. No one who doesn't have kids can understand how truly horrible most modern kids cartoons are.

I suppose that if one really, really liked such items as Care Bears and My Little Pony, one might have a discerning opinion of which was better. To one like myself, this question is like asking whether I prefer my vomitus with a predominance of half-digested red cabbage or green cabbage.
