Things you have built a bong out of

I'm feeling left out of the "shotgunning a beer" thread, so here's one for the stoners.

The pineapple idea was okay, if a little pineapply. The modified vacuum cleaner idea was extremely exciting during the planning and building stages, but ultimately painful and wasteful. The Barbie doll worked well, but had a low volume. More of a pipe, really.

A potato was always reliable but not really a bong. PVC pipe and I once worked in a machine shop @ 17 where I crafted a 15lb brass bong on the clock. It was all made with threaded parts I tooled and lathed (and I think it leeched chemicals) but a work of art. I was fired soon after needless to say

I believe my photo is the hesh thread...:-)

"is on" *types out keys with butt of lighter*

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Thursday, 24 April 2003 03:38 (twenty-two years ago)

A bong.. huh huh

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 24 April 2003 03:56 (twenty-two years ago)

The soda pop can is the old standby. Never lets you down. Actually, I can't really think of any other object I've improvised one with.

1. pencil in through side of apple to make hole; angled up; towards bottom of stem-indent; the physics will become apparent!

2. highland park bottle + stopper + bucket + water (required prising the bottom off the glass bottle, unfeasible really but that's how it happened)

blythe spirit, Thursday, 24 April 2003 04:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm working on using a toy penguin as one, but we need some pot. Anyone got some pot?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 24 April 2003 04:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I should honor the Hampshire fire by saying "an exchange student" or "a yurt," but man, nothing. I've never built a bong (I've never even shotgunned a beer). I'll bet I could've gotten course credit for it if I had.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 24 April 2003 04:30 (twenty-two years ago)

A chia head, but it wasn't me: it had a pipe in its mouth, a carb in its ear, and a mouthpiece stemming from the top of its skull. Except that Chia terracotta material is porous, so it was always damp and clammy.

buck tango (nabisco), Thursday, 24 April 2003 04:35 (twenty-two years ago)

a figure of bert made out of plasticine (though I suppose that was more a pipe)

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 24 April 2003 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah so's mine, damn. Just beercans then I guess.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 24 April 2003 04:48 (twenty-two years ago)

in theory only: a gasmask.
maybe four of them all rigged up to an elaborate network of plastic tubing, with big levers to switch to tanks of ether and a KGB-grade gaseous opiate.

but in real life pot mostly just makes me feel terrible.

gabriel (gabe), Thursday, 24 April 2003 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I think your mistake is mixing it with ether.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 24 April 2003 04:55 (twenty-two years ago)

a small green vase; but the hole we had to punch in the glass widened into a crack which made the thing worthless after just a short while.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 24 April 2003 04:57 (twenty-two years ago)

(though I suppose that was more a pipe)

Whatever. I didn't mean to specify "bong" in any strict way. Like I said, the Barbie doll (or whatever kind of doll it was) was just a pipe -- in retrospect, a really really creepy pipe. A headless grown woman doll with a bowl of pot sticking out of her belly. Talk about using women. What would Freud say?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 24 April 2003 04:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i found six can-bongs along the side of the road last sunday morning for about three blocks...they were diet coke cans so nancy and i entertained ideas about a bunch of soccer moms up to no good trying to get their bong right

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 24 April 2003 05:01 (twenty-two years ago)

back when I lived up the hill, we used to have Blue Peter eveings which were centred arounf bong construction. Someof the things used: Gas Mask, a Pikachu water bottle (very sucessful), welding gas bottles, the pin usede to hold my mates' leg together when he came of his motor bike (after he'd had it removed, of course), more welding gas bottles than you can shake a stick at, motor cycle exhasudt bits. copper pipes and tubes, plasric piping and so on. We did want to use a motorbike engine once but couldn't quite work that one out.

I don't even like bongs, they make me most unwell, but building them is a lot of fun.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 24 April 2003 05:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Common one I've seen here is the plastic drink bottle (plastic Coke "buddy" bottle or the like). Then you go to the neighbours yard with some scissors and pinch a bit of their garden hose, create a makeshift cone out of some tin from a soft drink can, and voila.

Gimme the proper glass pyrex jobs any day...

I'm working on using a toy penguin as one

was at a friends, and he had a ceramic penguin bong. A proper one n'all. It was really hard to hold.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 April 2003 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Me and my friends once used a watermelon with a piece of zucchini attached as a mouthpiece. It worked great!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 24 April 2003 06:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I've smoked from all sorts of foodstuffs (thanks working-in-restaurants for the valuable lessons you taught me!), apples, taters, but my favorite has always been the carrot-chillum.

I had a friend a few years back that had made a bong out of an old hollowed-out WWII bombshell, which we of course referred to as "THE BOMB". With water & ice cubes in it, it made the most amazing low-pitched rumbly "CHUGGACHUGGA" sounds. Man I wish I had sampled that.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 24 April 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Me and the NZA can't be the only ones to smoke out of an apple. Apart from the apple, I haven't built bongs out of anything unusual. I'm a smoker, not a engineer. Nobody I hung out w/ever went through the MacGyver-pipe stage. Well, I guess there was the time when we scoured the local diners for those flimsy, semi-disposable ashtrays to bend it into a pipe. And the gravity bong made from a huge jug and a empty two liter, but that's routine stonerdom.

buttch (Oops), Thursday, 24 April 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Forgot about making a steamroller out of the cardboard wrapping-paper tubes.

buttch (Oops), Thursday, 24 April 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Also as far as I'm concerned its not a bong unless someone had to weld some part of it.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 24 April 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

a friend of mine from college owns this thread. not only for the espresso machine but also for the aquarium featuring treasure chest that opened and closed.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 25 April 2003 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm surprised there isn't an Ultimate Bong competition somewhere in the country. People would flock to that. The Great American Bong-Off, every year just outside of Boulder.

Someone I knew once tried to build this hyper-complex PVC-tubing bong in a dormitory suite. At some point a professor was passing through and started asking what it was, and this kid delivered a truly impressive (and truly stoned) explanation of how it was meant to demonstrate some thermodynamic principle for one of his lab courses.

buck tango (nabisco), Friday, 25 April 2003 06:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know if I'm remembering this correctly, but I think I heard of some guy building a giant bong/hooka thing out of a pool table. Now I don't really see how that would work.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 25 April 2003 06:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Could work, it's be hard to block the leaks though.

Ed (dali), Friday, 25 April 2003 06:42 (twenty-two years ago)

buttch (Oops), Friday, 25 April 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I mounted an existing tho ugly bong in the extra space inside the case of an old 286 back in the day. So you could actually play Pac Man and take hits simultaneously on it.

My friends thought it was great fun, but I never used it. I'm allergic.

martin mushrush (mushrush), Friday, 25 April 2003 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

My friends built me one out of a mason jar years ago. I smoked some weed laced with liquid acid out of it. I freaked out and never smoked pot again.
