DON'T USE EARTHLINK

I signed up for DSL with Earthlink a few months back. I was asked at the time whether or not I wanted a static IP. I said that I did not. I was nevertheless signed up for one. Because it has taken me a while to catch their mistake, and because, after e-mail correspondence I was told to call them instead, and because it's taken a while to find time to sit on the phone waiting for their fucking customer service, I will not be given a refund for the first couple months' worth of this service which I did not ask for.

I don't think I know anyone who's used Earthlink and not been fux0red over by them.

You have to pay extra for a static ip. That's a bag o'shite if ever I heard one.

Find the right people and write 'em a letter. Or did you pay by credit card? Just have your credit card company contest the charges. I mean, yeah, they're not always on the ball, but I bet you can take another step & get your $$ back.

I agree. Earthlink is totally incompetant. I would rather use aol. Earthlink's tech support is as effective as a wooden tea kettle.

Speakeasy rocks. I don't have DSL with them, but for dialup, they're pretty good. :-)

i have earthlink DSL. re that: i had zero problem with them, but ceaseless problems with Verizon (my local phone company). i have nothing to complain about re earthlink, really.

Speakeasy does in fact rock. I have their DSL package with static IP and love it (and I'm even in nightmarish Verison territory)

i've never had a problem with earthlink, except for the fact that my dsl loses sync sometimes. but i'm fairly far from the station thingy, i don't think i was technically supposed to be able to get the dsl in the first place, so...

As daria g said, if you paid by credit card and it's enough money to bother with, contesting the charges can work out well. I just had a ridiculous amount in erroneous charges removed from my account--takes some time, but worth it.

Earthlink can bite my nads. When I moved from Boston to the suburbs they didn't offer their DSL service there. I had 3 months still available on my contract and didn't cancel with them, seeing as I wasn't about to pay them $250 to cancel. I used the dial up service until my contract ran out and now they are trying to tell me I canceled with them. This has going on for a year with them now and they have attorneys calling me and shit. Everytime they call I tell them to f-off, they aren't getting paid for something I didn't cancel. I've tried the BBB and everything and Earthlink insists I canceled. I have the docs to prove I didn't cancel. So they can call me for the next 500 years, fuckers ain't gettin the shizzle.
