The cheesey movie fan in me speaks. I think this looks like a great 90 minutes of switch of the brain and watch carnage type fun.

Well someone better reply otherwise it looks like they just spent 34million on a surefire flop. Which would not be good at all.

Calum, Wednesday, 30 April 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

if there are boobs in it, it can't be that bad.

hstencil, Wednesday, 30 April 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Kelly Rowland is going to be in it! But I fear she can't act.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuckin A. Every time I hear the title, my inner child goes all "I can't go up to the blackboard right now, I have a cramp."

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I am totally going to root for Freddy, but he really can't kill Jason unless Jason happens to take a lil nap.

Mandee, Wednesday, 30 April 2003 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to see Jason yawn and stretch before he naps, and then fold his hands under his head and curl up in the semi-fetal position. That would be cute and creepy at the same time.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

wouldn't it be great if for budget/copyright reasons they had to make do with Freddy from Rod, Jane, & Freddy?

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

...versus David Jason.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

only movie from either series I actually enjoyed was the second Friday The 13th. So I can't really get crazy excited about this.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

The first F13TH is my fave, it has a real gutbucket sleazy feel and was a big cult teenage movie at my school when it was first released in the UK: it was only years later that I discovered that it's also basically a huge rip-off of an early 70s Mario Bava slasher flick. I saw F13th 3 in 3-D at the cinema, but it was still rub.

Nightmare on Elm Street 1 and 3 are gd: no Craven, no comment

Andrew L (Andrew L), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Friday the 13th is a great little movie, the ending is creepy as fuck. It's a rip from the Bava film 'Twitch of a Death Nerve' (aka Bay of Blood/ Blood Bath) although to be fair it's part 2 that rips that movie more than part 1. The original Friday the 13th is basically Halloween in a summer camp, whereas part 2 is a take off on the Bava movie with some scenes which are identical. The Friday films are all fun as soon as you realise that Jason has no explanation or reason for actually being there. Is he a ghost? Who knows?

Wes Craven actually only co-wrote Nightmare 3, but he directed New Nightmare, which I'm surprised you never mentioned. Interviewed Rob Englund recently and he's a nice fellow, told me lots about the movie but has a bit of a 'silence' thing going on with New Line in regards to how much he can reveal.

Calum, Thursday, 1 May 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

keep in mind I don't even like Halloween, so my tastes probably aren't the same as the average horror fan.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 1 May 2003 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to see it, but though I love 'em, but horror movies wig me out, even if they are lame. Will someone come watch it with me please?

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 1 May 2003 01:39 (twenty-two years ago)

(without the second 'but')

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 1 May 2003 01:39 (twenty-two years ago)

well, neither of these dudes have defined powers/weaknesses, so it'll just be kinda dumb. unlike Jason X. Which was was real dumb.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 1 May 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Dumb is the beauty of it!

My only affection for the Friday the 13th movies is remembering watching them every Halloween with The Guys as a preteen and early teen; the Nightmare movies, although I have the boxed set, I'll skip except for the Craven ones. But the idea of combining them, it's just going to be classic. It's like Rambo vs. the A-Team. ... only not quite that good.

Goddamn would that be awesome.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll see it w/you Luna with one butt.

buttch (Oops), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Bubba Hotep on the other hand: Elvis/JFK (as a black man) buddy movie where they fight mummies, that I'm looking forward to.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Has that been picked up yet? I know Bruce Campbell said at one point that they were having trouble finding a distributor (damn the man, etc.)

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno, I remember reading about when it was at, what??? Cannes? Sundance? Like, last fall, whatever was happening then. That must have been Cannes.
Haven't heard anything about it since. I should look it up. I will.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Toronto Film Festival, that's where it was.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Bubba Ho-Tep is very high on the must-see-at-all-costs list. ANYthing with Bruce Campbell as Elvis would be must-see-at-all-costs. Even a remake of Blue Hawaii.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

why oh why does this film not yet have distribution?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

... damn. I don't know anything about the production, I hope it's not that it was super-low budget with shakycam and visible boom mikes. C'mon, it's Bubba Ho-Tep!

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

visible boom mikes.

first of all, I think this is a requirement for movies where Elvis and JFK battle the Mummy.
second, have you noticed waaaaay more of this in mainstream movies lately? particularly lame comedies starring SNL alum.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Holy shit, I thought you all were joking about this Bubba Ho-Tep flick!!! I've never been so easily sold on a film.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Don Coscarelli directed this?! Now I'm sold.

Frühlingsmute (Wintermute), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

SEE? All you need to do is say the premise -- and I think it doesn't hurt at all to include Bruce Campbell in the mention (and JFK is ... dammit, I want to say Ozzy Smith, but he was a ballplayer -- the guy who played the chauffeur in Joe vs. the Volcano) -- and everyone wants to see it. This movie sells itself.

Good point about the visible boom mikes, maybe, except I don't know if "they do it in SNL alumovies" is a good reason for anything.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Ossie Davis.

re: visible boom mikes
no no it's not good in comedies

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

To answer the title question: just NO.

I aim to be constructive!
