WOW Tom truely is the Disco man, invented the 12" mix and basically changed clubbing for ever. Behind a load of fantastic Salsoul stuff (including some personnal faves Doctor Love, T.S.O.P and Love sensation) and re-mixed, re-mmastered and re-arranged so many classics (he also did some stuff on Saturday night fever, and i think he has a few links to West end records).

More important than Larry Levan? Yes.
Big bushy Moustache? Yes.
In awe of what he did? Yes.

well, tell me what tracks i should look out for!

Including the stuff above i would suggest:

Ecstacy, Passion and pain - touch and go

Most of the people's choice, Salsoul orc, MFSB instrumental Tom moulton mixes are class (i believe they are all the same band?).

Grace Jones - atlantic city gambler.

lets do the latin hustle - eddie drennon

Most Tom Moulton mixes are worth checking out as he tends to create that Spector style overlays and he extends the mix real well concentrating heavily on extending the rythmn section for the approprioate amounts of time

Gareth the book "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life" has lots of valuable information on the disco period and a decent discography. The coverage of techno is a little frustrating if only because they spend most time putting down techno, and with a less compelling critique than Reynolds, but the coverage of Disco and House is invaluable.
Walter Gibbons is from the same period as Moulton, and he is great as well.
My favorite Salsoul records are:
Double Exposure "Ten Percent"
Loleatta Halloway "Hit and Run"
Frist Choice "Dr Love"
Either Moulton or Gibbons worked on all of those (acnt remember which as I am at work now). Gareth I have them all on vinyl if you want me to add them to the tapes I am making for you...
