5.30. Wah! Never has a Friday seemed so long...

Encourage a superior to suggest you all go to the pub. The superior is likely to be just as up for it. If you have no superiors, then what on earth are you still doing at work?

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 2 May 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Hell yeah DV - get outta there.

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 2 May 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't come in. I should have followed this advice, having indulged in rock and roll last night and gotten three hours sleep. Grgle.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 2 May 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

About half of the people at my office are out right now (gone either to Keeneland here in da Lex or up to Churchill Downs) for Da Oaks.

Most everyone will prob'ly be outta here by 4:30 today, but I may take off around 3 or 3:30 cuz I don't feel so good and GOD IT'S ALREADY BEEN THE LONGEST FRIDAY EVAH LAWDY NO!

I didn't just indulge in rock and roll last night, I PURGED the rock and roll DEMONS (along with like 4 gallons of sweat) under the hamburger lamps* and got ONE hour sleep, so NYA.**

*"under the hamburger lamps" = my band's euphemism for being onstage
**I'm like totally delirious right now, sorry if this seems childish.

Successfully wasted ten minutes as the boss came over and asked us what we were all doing for bank holiday. Turns out it's my colleague's birthday. Wow. I am doing nothing exciting, the most exciting thing I have planned is walking to the River Lee or Lea with HSA (or the Science Museum if it rains) and going to see Live Forever (the Britpop Film) with my friend Cat.

kate, Friday, 2 May 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

And wow Mark that's a great idea, I'm so trying that! (except not today, cuz drinking = the last thing I wanna do right now)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 2 May 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

walking to the River Lee or Lea with HSA

This reminds me of school sponsored walks along the River Lee or Lea from Ware to Enfield Lock (a distance of 22km I recall), which I did abt this time of year, every year from 1983-88.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 2 May 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I usually scarper at 4 on Fridays but I am ALONE today so must soldier on til closing time (luckily 5 on Fridays). Midday is actually a civilised time to leave when preparing for a bank holiday weekend, if you ask me.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 2 May 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

MarkH did you observe the skinned bears!!??

mark s (mark s), Friday, 2 May 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

4 GO GO GO!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 2 May 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

We will look for skinned bears when we do our walk. HSA was very taken with that story!

kate, Friday, 2 May 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

2:04 (and after showing up 1.5 hrs late).

Have a nice weekend y'all.

chester (synkro), Friday, 2 May 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

No one does this at my office: I knock off at 5, same as every day normally, and most are still there. When there is some pub thing happening, no one moves to the pub until 6, even on a Friday.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 2 May 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh man, I'll be here until 7 at least today.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 2 May 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm stuck here till 6pm. I stopped doing work at 2pm.

@@RON W (Aaron W), Friday, 2 May 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Judging from what I've read, it used to be okay to leave around 2 or 2:30 on Fridays, at least during the spring and summer. Perhaps we should start a movement to bring that back.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 2 May 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

My old job in Boston let us off at 2 PM on Fridays during the summer. It was wonderful--I'd head over to Harvard Square, catch an early movie, and do record shopping. Sometimes on nice days I'd take naps in Harvard Yard.
